Decided to have a little go at the box room this morning. I have tried to declutter it before, without huge success so just going for the 10 item strategy rather than aiming too high.

    These are my 10 items:
Mobile phone sent to Cex (thanks to MSE's calculator for best price for old mobiles)
    Baby toiletries * 4
    Nappy bags * lots
Mascara and lip pencil (brand new, sent to charity shop)
    Children's book and CD
    Brochure (recycled)

Also found a DS charger and hair clip, which will now be used rather than sitting on a forgotten shelf.

The phone inspired me to look for other old phones, found 2 and will work out whether they are worth recycling or putting on ebay.

1-6. Recycling bits and bobs hanging around.
    7. Packaging from insoles, which I finally trimmed and put into my shoes today!

Managed to sort out my shoe stash - 4 pairs to CS - 1 pair going to DS partner if she wants them - if not, CS.
    5 Empty shoe boxes gone.
I have a metal shoe rack for my everyday shoes at the bottom of the wardrobe, its been there for about 5 years. Cleared it all off & discovered I'd put it together with one end upside down! Wondered why shoes always seemed to slip off it :) Now corrected & screws done up tight.
Gonna try to do the paperwork mountain this week ..........

Oh and try to put some stuff on eBuy today

  • Morning all!

I had a fab day yesterday, but no decluttering - saw a friend in the morning then went to a course all afternoon.

In the middle of the night I woke up and realised I had a jacket in the wardrobe that I haven't worn for a couple of years, so that's in the CS bag. Also got rid of some old paperwork when I was filing, and noticed my files need to be gone through as thereare things that can be shredded - plan to start on that properly this coming week.

Today I'm sorting out all the receipts in my bag and then having a proper sort through of one wardrobe.

  • Morning one and all. It's nice and sunny where I am. It makes such a difference to how I feel.
Have cleared my bedroom floor of the piles of clothes that need ironing/putting away. Have sorted laundry piles into colours to try to get that under control today.
Have decluttered 8 items of clothing into charity bag.
Just sitting down to a cuppa, watching an episode of Lewis and then getting my school prep done.
After that I plan to do some major decluttering in the kitchen and what-I-call 'office'.

Lobby - I'd aim to do the larder first. It's a bit more black and white to do. If something is massively out of date it makes the choice for you :j

Lol, in theory yes! But I'm less worried about the food aspect of the 'larder', it's the 2/3rds of it that has become my diy/tools store - I'm a whole nother level of random clutterer than your average bear :)
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
  • I meant to say, I borrowed a copy of No More Clutter from the library and it's excellent. Even though I am good at getting rid of stuff, I like to read decluttering books to motivate myself even more! I also like The Toothbrush Principle which was mentioned earlier in this thread.

And I've got a question - how many years utility bills should I keep? I worked in the legal profession for a while, and I think the need for accurate records has stuck with me! I'm thinking I only need a year of them - more work for the shredder!

  • Everyone is doing so well!

Have been creeping around the house this morning doing little bits but everyone is up now so can get the Hoover out!

So far I have hung up one washing indoors and got another wash on. Have probably got enough for another two washes but only one airer so depends how quickly everything dries. Alot of stuff is probaly going to get lobbed on hangers and hung round the house, i should really buy another airer! Put all the empty loo rolls and deodorant cans from the bathroom in the bin.

Started tidying the bottom of the stairs. We have a wicker stair basket at the bottom but it was full of toys which I've now carried up to ds's room to go through later. So now my wicker basket just has brollies, hats and scarves in it. Will put all the shoes and wellies away in the understairs cupboard where they should be as the shoe rack is in there. Having a wee tea break right now but now everyone is up all the stairs can get hoovered.

Hopefully later on I will make a bit more of a dent in the dining room. Mr Bubble is going off to work soon so I will have to motivate myself.

So I have tackled my one cupboard for the day. I had a clear out of the bathroom cupboard before my shower. Lots of items put back in their 'proper' homes. Towels folded nicely. I found a hairclip that I thought I'd lost!
Binned/recycled/CS 20 items in total. I have also list two items from their onto ebay. I have also earmarked about 10 items that I have not used much of/ used for a long time. I will leave these for now, but if I don't use them in the next few months, I will part with these too.

Also ebayed one other item and I am just about to do a third. I also took a top out of my wardrobe which I have never worn and will never wear. It is a beautiful top, a very good brand and 100% silk. I'm hoping for a few ££s for this on ebay.

    This week:
    16. - 21. used up toiletry & household cleaning items
    22 - 24. old diaries and a calendar binned/recycled.
    25. out of date squash poured away
    26. old wallet binned
    27. packaging collected from bedroom and recycled.
    28. my favourite perfume finally used up & bottle recycled.
    29. finally gave up on my slippers - inside ripped, they'd stretched and kept coming off. So comfy though. Binned.
    30. son's 'student' iron into electrical recycling - tried to use it but it's hopeless. no wonder he stayed crumpled.

I do feel this was a 'could do better' week, but at least it was a start.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.
