Felt inspired to mend trousers but cant find my sewing box. I looked in the place i 'knew' it was then the place i thought it might be then a few other places. Result - no sewing box though i have found the right colour thread and needles. Even a thimble. Because i am only just starting with the toothbrush principle all three were of course in totally different places. I had to enter all three dumping rooms (the music room on the ground floor, the back room on the 1st floor and the attic). Eek. So this week's plan is to declutter 13 items a day from the 1st floor room then move the music room clutter up there to sort so music room can be straight for piano tuner (music room is last bastion of clutter on ground floor having decluttered last two kitchen drawers this morning). Good work team in a) decluttering your clutter and b) keeping me motivated to declutter mine.
Now drinking the 'free' glass of red wine from the xmas box. You know, the one where no more comes out the tap so you open the box, cut the corner off and out comes the free glassbox now gone (rc and bin). And proud to say toothbrush principle already applied to scissors so no time wasted at all hunting for them. Thanks for whoever recommended it. I treated myself to the kindle version because a) the one copy in dundee library is out on loan
i'm too impatient to wait lol
c) the ebook wont add to my clutter
d) i am viewing it as my treat for hard work done so far. I'll let you know how i get onMrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Another little bit this afternoon - another kitchen cupboard semi cleared out, got rid of a canister, have been meaning to get a water jug for work and found one
so will take that in, also got rid of an old slimming world chip maker I've never used (I don't even like chips!). And realised that if I wash my hot water bottle cover it's perfectly servicable.
And finally got the results of my last declutter to the CS0 -
today:
put up black board that I made with vintage hooks (total cost £2 woohoo) by front door and the bags for tomorrow are loaded onto it!!
made a cushion cover that I've had cut and pinned out for 4+ months (4 bits of straight line sewing - took me longer to plug the sewing machine in than finish it!
1 kitchen cupboard done with various bits thrown/cs/or put back where they really belong.
1 bin bag full of rubbish from the garden collected and ready to be thrown.
I have been into 3 of the areas of doom and done smash and grab decluttering:
wardrobe: 4 odd gloves and a hat I hate in cs box.
8 or so boxes that jewellery came in - not sure whether to just throw these, they are pretty but don't need them, would a cs take them or freecycle?
larder/diy storage - whilst hunting for the right screws for the blackboard (3 large tins of various bits and bobs to go through) I collected all the hooks I came across and put them in a separate container, which has allowed my to create a key cupboard behind the larder door so they aren't just swimming around in various bits of crockery.
Also took out 2 pretty tins and turned them into treat holders for the kids puddings (rather than, again, these being randomly stuffed in cupboards)
craft cupboard (also contains table linen, candles, cook books, kids art, cat things, halloween, various other things and the ubiquitous DIY equipment) : took out 2 boxes, binned the obvious rubbish, relocated things that actually live elsewhere and grouped the remainder so at least I know what is in each. the boxes are back in and to the untrained eye it's still a disaster, but I can see a way forward for these areas now: little and often.
very grateful for this thread, it's so positive and I am definitely feeling the difference in my home (and spirits) - no-one else would notice, but I am feeling less overwhelmed by constantly trying to clean and tidy "stuff":AA/give up smoking (done)0 -
I've been lurking these decluttering threads for years, but I'm finally making a start. I've started tackling my study book shelves. I've listed a few on Amazon but items 1-5 are leaving the building:
1-3 Amazon trade-ins (and there's a £5 bonus gift card for trading in more than £15 worth of books before the end of the month)
4-5 Books to charity shop as only selling for 1p on Amazon and I don't want them. Possibly off to the tip if the charity shop don't want them either!
Onwards and upwards!0 -
A few more for today
-odds and ends of papers from playroom to recycling
-broken fairy wings binned
-2 dressing up costumes removed to sell
-a few broken toys binned
-set of dolls listed on ebay
That's me done for today0 -
Today's been an odd day...its flown by - had great intentions but sold DD's old tv and have literally spent most of day waiting for the buyer to collect, he finally came at about 5:30 this evening.
Started the great declutter in our bedroom...emptied OH's bedside cabinet...omg what a state!!!
so plan of action, tv, ironing and straightening up
fingers crossed snow stays away so that the kids can go to school got i am itching for some peaceful decluttering time0 -
Hi all
I have been tootling around this weeks organising bits and pieces - by the time I get in from work I am too tired to do much else.
I have tidied out two cupboards this weekend and sent some things and clothes to the charity shop. This has given me space to put things away in some order:
43 – 50 DHs tops – too small
51 – 60 my tops and jackets
61 Skirt
62 torch
63 2 x tech things for computer
64 lampshade
65 old telephone
66 brand new paddling pool – in bag
67 picnic set
68 car cleaning kit
I am sure there were other things - there were two full black bags plus the picnic set - but I can't remember what they were :rotfl:
I was surprised that my DH was prepared to let so much go - he can be very "pack-ratty" - even worse than me
All of these bits were dropped off at the charity shop today :j
Well done everyone - we are all doing so well!

Dundee, I'm reading the Toothbrush principle. Just started. The chapter about the bathroom has already made me think! Basically only keep out/to hand what you use.
Lilyplonk, meant to say hello:j
Right bit more sorting this evening from upstairs

I've realised that in trying to clear the room of doom (Hobby room) I'd managed to relocate some of the stuff into the bedroom. It's a bit inevitable with the lack of space. But all tidied and off the floor now
Need to really get ahead of target this week as I can feel myself tiring. I'm doing it in short bursts but it can be hard work.

Last one from me, mended a pair of trousers where the zip had come lose then tackled a box of shoes, binned some, kept some and sat on the floor to give them a clean with old fashioned polish and a brush.....up until the dog came in, walked straight in the polish tin and walked black shoe polish all over the living room floorPiglet
