Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

Had 5 hours without the kids today so got cracking with sorting their toys out. One bin liner full of broken toys and toys with bits missing ready for the tip.
Other toys sorted out into boxes and need to reduce number of toy cars by 15 and hot wheel track by 1 set (they had a new set for christmas so figure one in one out).
Most of the building bricks are going to go into the loft ready for spring car boot sale along with 3 other toys which they've grown out of.
1 pair of shoes (brand new with tags) bought last spring to go onto ebay once the weather starts to get nice and 1 pair of boots also to go onto ebay but will put them on tomorrow.
12 books ready to go to charity shop.
All in all a really good few hours however a I unloaded most of the kids toys and books onto my bedroom floor to sort through them and haven't finished yet so my bedroom is a total disaster zone!
Have a bin liner full of clothes to go through as well - some will be good enough for the charity shop and others will go to the clothes bin at the tip for recycling.
No kids at home tomorrow evening so hopefully I will have a few more hours to continue so that I can at least get into bed without climbing over boxes of stuff!!!!StartingToGetOutofDebt

Some of our gang have been saying they are sorting their craft stash out. Last year, I did a major cull - seriously way too much stuff. Anyway, when it came to my sewing stuff this is what it did....
Saved a million plastic take away boxes with lids, all the same size and see through, hence no need for labels.
I have a "sewing trolley" which is a three drawer wheeled doo-dah from Argos, have had for almost 20years! Everything is sorted into individual plastic boxes which stand on end in the drawer.
All cottons and ribbons are sorted by colour, All ribbon-like things, like elastic, bias binding etc. are wrapped around spare lids and secured with an elastic band in the other direction.
Buttons are sorted into logical groups and threaded onto a piece of wool then knotted. Keeps all same together so no hunting for six the same as they are all together.
Really does save me hours of time. Plus, if I am sewing a blue fabric I only take the plastic box with the blue threads, plus the box with the needles and pins in. So even when in use it's tidy.
Not bragging, offering a hint as I have struggled for years to contain my sewing stuff and this has been a Godsend at last.
Just need a miracle to organise my mountain of fabric now.....Saving 1 animal wont change the world - but it will change the world for that 1 animal

Morning everyone,
Wow it was busy on here yesterday, you are all doing so well.:D
I managed to take a bag of books to the charity shop and a DS bag was picked up from Freegle.
I also took down the tree and put all the decorations away, the house looks so much tidier.
Back to work tomorrow so a last push today to get things decluttered.
Happy decluttering everyone.:)0 -
 Welcome to all newbies to this inspiring thread.
Yesterday OH sorted out our DVD shelf and dusted it as well. All looking neat and tidy now, none thrown away though but then OH watches the DVD's frequently.
I sorted through a box of paperwork and recycled half of the content.
Today I will sort out the pile of ironing and hopefully also take photos of the items that I want to sell.

Did a bit more sorting of my craft drawers - everything is now in 3 drawers instead of 5, and other bits have been put in their correct places. Makes it so much easier to find things if they're in their proper place!
A few 'chuck outs' today:
34. 2012 programme from my Quilters Group - shredded as there were addresses and phone nos in there
35. Pyrex glass casserole - hubby discovered a chunk out of this when he was washing it up yesterday and cut himself on it.
36. Christmas TV guide - paper recycling
37. A fat quarter of fabric - used to make 'wiggly' bags for sick children
38. Quite a few mini rubber stamps - will give to a friend for her granddaughter
39. Piece of finished cross stitch it took me about 3 years to complete - going to sew it into a bag for a friend
40. Rotten piece of fruit put in compost
41. Out of date pate put in rubbish bin
42. Remains of a frozen curry that won't be eaten - rubbish bin
43. Loads of cards and envelopes sorted for Surestart at local library
44. 4 greetings cards written for January birthdays/anniversarys ready to post
Lots of little fiddly bits, but I'm getting there. Need to take some big stuff to the charity shop next week but I'll list them when I take them.
Not been up in the loft today to check the noises/mousetraps. Wonder if I'll find OrangeFairy up there.....!!

Just scan the receipt or take a photo and, along with the bank statement, that should be more than enough for a proof of purchase.
I have found this alot of my receipts are quite faded and some you can't make out.

Can I join too, so fed up of living surrounded by stuff that just does nothing to enhance my life.
First thing I am decluttering is.....my lungs! Blooming chest infection making life pretty pants at the mo, no sleep and starting night shifts tonight, oh the fun. Once I've battered this into submission I shall declutter the several tissue boxes, piles of tissues, packs of vitamins and comfort food wrappers that have accumulated down my side of the sofa and bed!
Supposed to be moving to a bigger palce this year but want to fill it with things I actually like not just carp I've built up over the last 29 1/2yrs of life
Going to aim for 300 items this month (could double that if I count tissues individually!)0
