Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

I have got my decluttering mojo back :j
I have tackled under the spare bed which might sound quite tame but it is where we hide the paperwork:eek:
I have shredded everything that is pre Dec 2004 as per the accountants instructions and this is bagged up and will be used to light the woodburner. I have put destroy dates on the rest and have filed it all box files which have been wrapped in plastic and put in the attic.
I also found four sleeping bags which are now back in their drawstring bags and are hanging in the garage where they are supposed to live.
I have recycled all the torn, tatty cardboard folders that the accounts were in along with several boxes that they were pushed in .
DD has also sorted out 3 large cushions and two throws for the charity shop.
I have been through my winter wardrobe and have sent everything that I have not worn in the last two years to the CS bins at our local SM.
Back to work and school tomorrow so don't think much will get done until the weekend when we really must get stuck into the garage
Keep up the good work everyone

-battered screen protector - tip
-Wii Game - ebay.
Hubby's wardrobe still waits for me. We've decided the whole thing is going, it takes up a whole wall, it's a double fitted with a vanity table in the middle. I will miss the middle - but it's a perfect dumping ground more than a "pretty me up" place.0 -
Christmas tree decorations packed & in loft with Christmas tree. Spare empty bauble box thats been in the loft for about 6 years passed to neighbour.
Various bits from the Sunday paper in the recycle bin along with a 'wobbly' box that held a nice decoration - reused a sturdy shoebox for it instead.
I do seem to be getting more 'In's' than 'Out's' at the moment but will persevere!!!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I'm finding it useful to read other people's lists, as they give inspiration for areas to select for decluttering.
Thanks to Gers and cashbackqueen - tomorrow I'm going to search for mugs and out of date food to declutter. Hopefully not too much OOD food but suspect there are are a few odd packets lurking.0 -

1. Christmas decs - there is still stuff up in the loft we didn't use. DH has bought some plastic boxes with lids so we are going to get all the stuff down and sort through it - throw out or give to CS what we don't need and pack and label what we want to keep.
2. We have to have a new boiler which means there will be space for an airing cupboard (current boiler so big it takes up the whole cupboard). So new shelves to be fitted in boiler cupboard for towels/bedding. So will sort through all bedding/towels. Limiting bedding to three sets for each bed, anything else will go to CS.
3. Wardrobe - love the idea of putting coat hangers wrong way round. I need to sort clothes out into winter/summer and store what's not in season to free up some space.
4. DH and I need to sort out the magazines - his walking mags, my fashion/knitting/craft mags. We've bought some box files and plastic wallets so that we can sort out what we want to keep and file away.
5. Need to sort out bills/statements/receipts/guarantees/etc. We have filing cabinets and folders but I've let things slip so need to get back on track.
I think that is enough to start with. Funny how writing it out makes it feel as if it is achievable.
Got carried away yesterday when I was searching for a lid for a tupperware type box - got them all out and checked they all had lids, which meant sorting out the cuboard. I cleaned the shelves as well, after getting cleaning spray and cloth out from under the sink. I ended up cleaning that out as well. I found lot of stuff under there I had forgotten I had. So lots of decluttering going on here.Books - the original virtual reality.

Everyone is doing really well, welcome to the newbies.
Recycling day tomorrow so had a mad dash round the house and have flung a few things in the recycling boxes/bags.
DH is going to the tip/recycling centre tomorrow. The Christmas tree which is sitting outside will go, along with some cardboard boxes. He will also take a bag to the charity shop.
I'm back at school tomorrow so not sure how much more I'll get done this week. I'll keep on top of the recycling though.
Have a lovely week whatever your plans.

DH goes back to work tomorrow and the 2013 decluttering starts in earnest. I'm going to go room to room although I haven't decided where to start yet. There will be lots of visits to the charity shop, and much cleaning. One day is earmarked for a trip into town with my stepdaughter but I don't know how long she's visiting for - if it's more than one night, I'll rope her in as well. Her old bedroom needs a good sort-out."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000
