Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

I've ordered 3 new (well second hand) books from Amazon, in the 1 in 1 out spirit, have now added 4 old books to the charity shop bag.
Might have a go at the airing cupboard tomorrow. It could do with some shelves though.
Any ideas for where I can sell washable nappies? I've got lots of different types but would like to get a few quid for them if possible. Think they've banned them on ebay.0 -
Goodness, this is a busy thread :j
I had to go back to work on Wednesday so decluttering has slowed sown somewhat
Still, I have decluttered some wine and put the box in the recycling
Also some other junk.
I will shortly drag myself and the boxes of Christmas decorations up 2 flights of stairs and put them away in the loft.
Also put items in a black bag to take to the CS on Saturday0 -

I'm starting to put some things on facebook as well as ebay, in the hopes that some friends will buy them or take them off my hands. I have many lovely things that don't fit me properly and the thought of them cluttering up my wardrobe makes me anxious!!0

we've had a very busy sorting and decluttering day here. My son is still of school so he helped and we attacked the garage. Two full bin bags to go out, a load of electrical junk, metal and wood to be taken to the tip. Best of all I stored some of the spare material left from out recent renovations (tiles, pieces of flooring) up under the loft space so they are safe in case they need to be used again, but also completely out of sight.
I'm planning on finishing the garage tomorrow with a view to taking the stuff to the tip on Saturday morning.Trying to keep in budget.

I need to climb on board!
Biggest problem is the spare room. When we have people to stay, we move things into our bedroom. Our bedroom now looks like a junk shop! When guests leave we move it back again and the cycle continues!
I'm going upstairs now to sort it out. I'll put some stuff in the loft. That is delaying the problem, I know, but I've sorted most of the loft out. I find it quite manageable to spend the odd half hour organizing the loft.
I'm going to be very careful about what comes into the house from now on. Only books on Kindle - books are a big problem!0 -

1. Christmas decs - there is still stuff up in the loft we didn't use. DH has bought some plastic boxes with lids so we are going to get all the stuff down and sort through it - throw out or give to CS what we don't need and pack and label what we want to keep. Loft emptied and useless stuff in bin bags ready for tip. Will box everything else at weekend to put back up in loft.:j
2. We have to have a new boiler which means there will be space for an airing cupboard (current boiler so big it takes up the whole cupboard). So new shelves to be fitted in boiler cupboard for towels/bedding. So will sort through all bedding/towels. Limiting bedding to three sets for each bed, anything else will go to CS.
3. Wardrobe - love the idea of putting coat hangers wrong way round. I need to sort clothes out into winter/summer and store what's not in season to free up some space.
4. DH and I need to sort out the magazines - his walking mags, my fashion/knitting/craft mags. We've bought some box files and plastic wallets so that we can sort out what we want to keep and file away.
5. Need to sort out bills/statements/receipts/guarantees/etc. We have filing cabinets and folders but I've let things slip so need to get back on track.
I think that is enough to start with. Funny how writing it out makes it feel as if it is achievable.Books - the original virtual reality.

Hi everyone
I've started the new year with a HUGE de-clutter to make way for our baby (due in April). I feel like I have really achieved something and it feels brilliant!
DONE:- 4 large bags to the tip
- 1 huge sack of shredded paper recycled after finally getting round to shredding the mound of paper dumped in the spare room
- 2 of the kitchen cupboards sorted out and unused items recycled (no more "oh that might come in handy" if it's not been used in last 6 months it's gone)
- 1 large box and a huge bag of items freecycled which I was going to get round to car-booting but never bothered
- Have gone through ALL of my clothes and now have 5 huge bags filled for the charity shop. Have only kept my maternity stuff, and a few items which I can wear after baby arrives, 1 suit for work (at the moment I don't have a job to go back to after mat leave so when I do go back I'll treat myself to a new work wardrobe). Feels really good not having a wardrobe bulging with ill-fitting clothes or things I kept refusing to get rid of because I liked them but never actually wore them for the past 5 years! Lastly, have got rid of all my tatty underwear (why do we keep socks with holes in or grey knickers that were once white?!):o
- ALL my CDs transferred to iTunes and stored in the loft (can't bear to part with them)
Best of all, we now have an empty room / blank canvas to lovingly turn into baby's nursery over the next few months.
TO DO:- Food cupboards and freezer - actually use stuff before buying
- Under-stairs cupboard
- Cleaning cupboard
- Shed (hubby's job)
- DVDs
Come April we'll promptly start filling the house with baby related clutter no doubt!! However, am determined to ebay/charity shop clothes once he's grown out of them and also sell toys which are no longer used etc.
New attitude for 2013 is to be ruthless with the clutter and not be sentimental. I feel much happier having a tidy clutter free house! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Bit of rubbish day decluttering wise as we had car trouble and spend the whole morning getting that sorted and then had unexpected visitors which was nice but took up most of the afternoon. Consequently, the garage didn't get done but I have been through all my jewelry and chucked everything that was broken, put unloved gifts in a bag for the charity and managed to turn 2 damaged/broken necklaces into one functioning one :money:
I also added all the important stuff onto the 2013 calender and recycled the 2012 one.
Hoping for a more productive day tomorrow...
