......Over the last few weeks I have been deliberately putting things we don't use up into the attic bedroom, so that we can sort them out without making more mess downstairs. DH wants to start sorting this afternoon - wish me luck  ......

Well, we got up to the attic, DH looked around and suggested we wait until we take the tree down (it lives in the under eaves storage). No we can't - nobody can get near the eaves ;).
    So:
    - 8 boxes that china ornaments came in recycled
    - 2 toiletry sets unpacked and boxes etc recycled
    - 3 duvet covers, 6 pillow cases, 2 sheets recycled
    - 2 cardboard boxes broken up and recycled
    - pillow, duvet and assorted junk binned
    - 4 garments into recycling
    - 8 items into CS box

Kitchen overflow (new pans etc) stored on top of wardrobe. Various items into empty chest of drawers.
Small chest and table marked down for furniture CS.
DS sorted out a box of his college stuff ready to take to his house.

    Haloes polished :D

We took a boot full of packaging and things to the dump so the house already looks clearer. I have also looked out a wee pile of things to take to the charity shop when it reopens.
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!
  • Ooh, my 2014 resolution really needs to be to start decluttering again. Not done too badly in the past few days but I'm fed up of my flat always looking a mess!

Started listing some stuff on ebay tonight (free listings until 5th Jan!) and have a pile ready to take to the charity shop. I also managed to give away a broken suitcase on freegle, so really pleased about that. The zip is a bit dodgy, but it's still useable and I really hate putting things in the bin!

Good luck everyone else decluttering :)

I am not a fan of minimalism, and have an antiques and vintage unit, which means that spare stock is usually around the house, mostly in the loft and garage, but there are bits in other places as well :o

I do think though, at the end of the old year / beginning of a new one, it makes people want to sort things out, even me! Today I have sorted some bits for the CS, have put an item on ebay, and gone through a large drawer full of jumbled up greetings cards and envelopes, matching the cards to the envelopes.

I have more items to ebay but HATE photographing them. I am so rubbish at photography it is no joke! I guess my digital camera isn't great, but I am sure it is capable of better results than I seem to get :o
  • Hi All

I too have been MIA. The good news is I had a really good clean & tidy prior to Xmas in the expectation of visitors and thankfully I've managed to keep on top of thing since then. So today I experienced the near miracle of coming home to a really lovely, tidy house.

I've pretty much lost count of what's come in & what's gone out. My gut feeling is that its been pretty much break even over the month. However, I'm pleased to say that I finally got round to painting my stairs - I took the carpet up about 3 months ago and its taken until now to do it. It could do with another coat but it does look really nice even now.

Looking forward to a new start in the New Year.

  • I've not been here since August either, it's been a heck of a year for me one way and another and I kind of lost sight of anything that wasn't on the critical list :)

Anyway I'm hoping to get back to doing a bit more next year, I've got a goal of decluttering one item a day. Do we think there'll be a new 2014 thread?

Also I am going to declutter some of DHs stuff as well, probably without him knowing. He has shirts from 20 years ago that he will never ever wear again (too big for him even) but can't bear to get rid of. I think I need to save him from himself on this one lol!

I've cleared out some dog stuff, old dog coats that don't fit anymore and some cat toys have been binned.

I got rid of any wrapping paper and cards into the recycling bin too.

One foil decoration binned - past its best
Ebay parcel ready to post tomorrow
  • I've not done much this last week, today I have done a few bits.

    Out,
Christmas cards, I've made a few of them into gift tags for next year, the rest went in the recycle bin
One large box DS's football table came in...recycled
a few bits of plastic packaging... recycled

Tomorrow I want to concentrate on getting the tree and decorations down so will give the living room a good clean out whilst doing it.

Final set of visitors due tomorrow ................ after that the tree can come down again and all the Christmas ornaments etc can go back to their regular homes.

Need to get some extra shelves put into ex-airing cupboard to make it more convenient for storage of various size boxes.

Have also decided on new set of plastic storage drawers to help get bedroom better organised.
