i went through the Christmas decorations today. Chucked a load out as they had seen better days and didnt have room on my tree for all that i had collected over the years. I'd just stockpiled the lot. I should have sorted through them when i put the tree up.

Broken artificial Christmas tree (too tired after ~10 years of use to hold onto its branches any more) has gone to the dump.

One shelf under the stairs completely emptied - the easiest one. Six more to go.

I have started a list of 'things' I have bought this year that are not food. My goal is to minimise the 'things' to the point of near extinction. I think I am already almost at that level with clothes, toiletries and cleaning materials. We buy what we need in a very, very simple, non-consumerist way and have done so for some time.

I am really determined this year not to let clutter back into the house after all my hard work in evicting it. :D I need this as a mantra!

  • Morning everyone!

It's bin day today, so food waste, paper recycling and can and bottle recycling all out waiting for collection.

Yesterday, after I posted, I decluttered:

    - gardening book I'd kept for over 20 years, just because the pictures were gorgeous - charity bag
    - two DS games, old and not worth selling - charity bag

Today I plan to list some things on Amazon.
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

Used up 8 toiletries and decluttered an old disk and some packaging. So will add 10 to my tally.

Keep going everyone. It doesn't matter how much or how little you declutter. Just make a start. And encourage your kids to declutter and help out too.

A big thank you. A few days of reading this thread and I can't stop decluttering. I hope the feeling doesn't go away because I have so much stuff in every room. I get sentimental over the smallest thing but have managed to get rid so much stuff since yesterday afternoon it's unbelievable.:j:j:j

Just having a break to decluttering some chocolate biscuits from christmas;) then back to it.

Been through the house quickly this morning and dedicated six items to sell, not gone out of the house yet, but have been listed on FB and if still here by the spring they'll be going to the car boot sale.
  • I had so much enthusiasm for this morning but the only thing I want to declutter at the moment is the children... to the garden!! Perhaps it'll stop the bickering?!!?

Thanks Curiouscrafter, I needed reminding to get new trunks for Ds2.. just noticed Debs2009 needs some too :rotfl:

Not back at work till monday so another 3 days of serious decluttering. Today's 13 will be the rest of the airing cupboard (so on yesterday's experience more likely to be another 3 bags) then a trip to the recycle. It'll be so good to have a working airing cupboard. And i now have a drawer in the kitchen dedicated to teatowels with only decent unstained unholey teatowels. In the words of miranda's mum 'such fun'
