  • Put some summer clothes away and put quite a few in charity bags and some in the recycler. Still got lots to do regarding clothing.

Sorted out my food cupboard and left out some items to use asap.

Need to look at jackets/coats next. Then the airing cupboard, I have kept my childrens character duvet covers which they dont use now so will streamline them.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

  • Just did a quick sort of the garden. Lots of bits of rubbish picked up. Looks so much better. Thanks Becky2 for the nudge.

Done a small tidy up of the kitchen. I've dug out 4 Tupperware containers that have no lids. Last year I sorted the tupperware into boxes in one area and lids in another. May have to buy some tupperware and maybe clear out some of the smaller ones we don't use. Will have to crack on with that kitchen cupboard tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is making progress :j

  • I'm joining in the decluttering in a bid to simplify my life. I've thrown out a quite a few sample sachets of creams and foundations etc today. There were freebies but most of them went unused and are now out of date. No more pointless freebies for me.

Going to take a blender and sandwich toaster to CS and have listed a steamer for selling.

I did the cosmetics challenge too a few years ago, and I've completely broken the 'buying things in Bo*ts because they're on offer' cycle and don't have a stash at all any more, apart from one or two things that have been on offer so I have one for when the current runs out. Feel much happier this way.
It really does make a difference doing that challenge. I recently got rid of a bag that used to store my stash and spares. No going back. :D

Rummer - I decluttered some crisps and biscuits too. They now form part of my long term storage :o

Moaning myrtle - I read about Project 333(?) I think it's called where the blogger paired down their stuff to the minimum. I donated some bedding to a local charity which operates a voucher scheme for those in need. It made me question why I was keeping so many sets of bedding. It was hard to get rid of things but I couldn't help but think there's someone in need who needs them more than me. :o

  • Mineallmine, I will look into that, thanks. I will dig out some towels for the Cats Protection League cattery up the road too.

Regarding Tupperware, it sells well at Car Boot Sales. I sold a rice cooker fot £2.00 recently. I may tip all mine onto the floor to sort it out, good idea to get rid of the small pots.

    Keep up the efforts everyone:T

I've had a big clutter clear out the past month, and it's just so nice to have all this space and light in the house. Day to day life, like finding things and cleaning is less work too.

The thing is, I don't want to gather more stuff to fill the space. I'm trying to keep focused on keeping things simple and finding ways to avoid more junk. That's the key I think, making it a lasting change rather than something I have to keep doing.

So, I've replaced my paper magazine subscriptions with digital ones, and I'm looking for things which do more with less - if that makes sense? Reusable stuff rather than bulky packets of disposable things, items that do multiple useful things rather than many items. I'm wondering if other people have any good suggestions?
  • Hi all!

Decluttered some sample face cream sachets today, a shampoo used up from the stash so the bottle has gone in the recycling, used some plastic containers that i saved from when we had chinese to take dinner to work in, although one portion did end up on the floor in the office! (me and hubby work together so i take his meals with me as well, luckily he was owed a lunch by one of the other members of staff so he let me have the one that survived!) then the tubs will be recycled (at work as they let us).

Planning to declutter some bits that need eating up from the freezer tonight, we have hubby's younger brother staying with us and he will eat anything so taking the opportunity to get some of the stuff out of there!!

Hopefully will be finishing the painting of my fence this weekend if the weather stays nice, want to make sure that it is all done ready for when the weather turns nasty!

    xx

  • Out: blender, baby monitor, slide projector, sandwich toaster, old iron, video, several cardboard boxes, 3 bags of rubbish

In: kilner jars for my jams and chutneys
  • I'm currently on a mission to root out and destroy all the old paper clutter that's lurking all over my house. I spent part of last evening ripping up stuff, and filling the recycling box/shredding box, as appropriate. My DH has taken to emptying the waste paper bin daily, I'm generating so much stuff!

Phase 2 will be to rationalise all my old Open University stuff and other textbooks (I'm a Lifelong Learner) and decide what I really need to keep.

Then I'll see what's lurking behind all that!

My parents lived through World War 2 and rationing, and I learned from them not to throw anything away if it might come in useful. Then my sister and first set of inlaws were primary school teachers which seemed to involve becoming packrats... DH is Born Organised but Bone Idle - so we've just accumulated clutter since I moved in 18 years ago. Once I discovered Flylady (yes I'll be popping over to the other thread shortly!) I realised what I had to do. Now Ive found you folks and even more inspiration!

  • Hi iam a newbie !
i have been reading all of your posts for ages, and i have decided to take the plunge and join if thats ok. I am a single mum working fulltime brought up 2 lads . Rushing around trying to fit everything in at break neck speed. Probably sounds familiar to you all. Everthing falling apart around me....
The catalyst for me came when youngest son went off to afghanistan , reading your posts made me roar with laughter and i realised that i have to get sorted and it was the ideal opportunity whilst he was away . Kept me busy and i wanted him to come home to a proper home. And keep me focused when inside i was falling apart. thats me all over put on a brave face , but do not cross me door step too ashamed to let you in. But thanks to you ladies things have started to change.
