I anticipate a large number of trips to the tip and charity shops. Have been unloading stuff to friends but am running out of options there really.
    Ruthless mode engaged. :rotfl:
Don't forget about things like Freecycle, Freegle and Gumtree to offload things. Particularly useful for more awkward things like heavy stuff like furniture or electricals.

    Many congrats

Congratulations Gers, as mineallmine says sites like that are really useful. I've been using Gumtree a bit this year and it's been great for selling some bits of furniture and gardening stuff. Not mega bucks but I found you got less hassle than on freecycle.

    Thanks. I am chuffed.

Used to use Freecycle but found it had a lot of idiots who seemed to take pleasure in time wasting or were traders. I don't mind giving to CS as at least the money can be added to by gift aid and it's not lining the pocket of a private individual. Making money is, I suppose, the bottom line for both but I want to chose who makes the money.
  • That's fair enough Gers. It's all about doing this in your prefered way. Some charities collect big stuff like furniture - in particular ones like The British Heart Foundation. Not used them but worth a thought if they have a shop near you.

Trying to keep a balance between stuff coming into the home and leaving/ de cluttering. Got a microfibre blanket from Lidl, very soft but was shedding everywhere. So that's gone back. No room for things that don't pay their way here.

Thanks for the tip about BHF, it's very useful. Almost everything 'big' is coming with me apart from my gas cooker (no mains gas) and a metal futon bed. As the fabric bit is reversible, and it's at least 20 years old, it doesn't have the required fire label so that will be dismantled and sent to the tip. We haven't used it in over a year anyway and it won't fit in the new down-sized place. :j:j

Why have I got six vases? All going. The kitchen cupboards really do have lots of skeletons in them - the bodies of earlier ideals and lifestyles!

Good luck to today's declutterers. I seem to be making more mess at the moment. :rotfl:
  • Great stuff Gers. A new start and all that :)

Ok so I've got 5-10 minutes spare before I need to go. So I'm going to dig into a couple of bags of clutter and see what I can find.

    Happy decluttering :)

    Today;
    - 3 sachets of dipping sauce to the charity tombola
    - a broken hanger binned
    - 2 more toiletry items used up
    - 39 garments to the recycling bag (I've bitten the bullet and sorted out my 'keep it in case' clothing collection as 'in case' has not happened for 4 years and counting. I'm going to use the t-shirts in a rag rug.
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.

Would you believe it... after posting about vases yesterday I took them to the CS and then had lunch with friend... who gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers! :rotfl::rotfl:

So these roses and purple things are sitting in a bucket.

    :rotfl:

Kitchen cupboard clearing out is going well. Ruthless mode is still engaged and I have put out so much rubbish and unwanted stuff. I had three meat thermometers (why?) and about six packets of Star Wars lollipops - there is no rational reason for either of these things so please don't ask me to explain.

Need more bin bags - need stronger bin bags. When did black bags become transparent and no stronger than supermarket carrier bags?

    Happy decluttering!

    Morning

Just popping in to say that I am going out in the garden now for an hour or so. Will generally be tidying up, trying to do this early this year when it is not so cold outside.

:T Well done to all for your decluttering efforts this week.

  • Sorting the master bedroom today. Feel overwhelmed today. Going to empty hubby's wardrobe so I can clean it and get him to sort through his clothes. He has more than me!

Gers - Lidl sell very strong black bags. They're 2.99 for 15/20 bags (cannot remember) but have a huge litre capacity. They have a yellow tie at the top. They sell other ones of different sizes and strengths but these ones are very strong. They are not particularly cheap but as they're so big I think they're worth it.

Right. I'm giving myself 5 minutes to completely empty this wardrobe. :j

Hope everyone else is making progress if only one drawer or area at a time :j

Have now de cluttered all my stock of shower gels, toothpaste etc into them and only left the part used ones out. Bathroom looks nice and tidy now.
