it has taken nearly 3 years, but we finally have pictures ON the wall instead of leaning against them! This afternoon we've hung a mirror, two pictures and two blinds. :j :j :j

Several more bags have been deposited at the charity shop, and empty ones brought home to be filled. It is becoming more challenging to fill a bag, which I take is a sign that decluttering has gone well. I've also listed some furniture on gumtree, although no interest yet. It is all sensibly priced. If I don't get any takers, I'll phone the charity shop which collects furniture and they can have it. It would be nice to get a few pennies for it, but ultimately I'd rather have the space.

I've ordered a stand for my ukulele so it can be displayed properly instead of being kept in an ugly brown box.

feeling quite chuffed to see things start to come together, it is really motivating to keep going.

Today I have organised all my payslips and important letters, well got them all in one place anyway.

I've gone through all my notebooks and ripped out all the used pages.

Sorted some candles out to give to a friend.

Chucked out loads of old belts, a rubbish waxing kit, and some old childrens books.

I've organised my book shelf, make up draw and top of dressing table.

Done 2 loads of washing already today, vacuumed the upstairs landing and 2 of the bedrooms, given the kitchen a wipe down, emptied the bin, chucked out some mouldy bread, put the dishwasher on, and im now about to hoover downstairs and make some courgette soup as they are taking over my kitchen!

Evening all, hope the decluttering is going well.

Ive sorted out a plastic bag full of junk from my room. Got a load of things to post off thanks to Ebay (probably 1/2 my ottoman of stuff for sale)

Im sorting my desk out later so should get rid of a bit of junk there. Going to go to the tip tomorrow and i need to hand a form in to nursery.

Hoping to clear out some paperwork tomorrow. Oh and the freezer as really need to defrost it! Small steps

  • I have just joined this thread. I want to have a de clutter ready for when I do my next home move which will be 100 miles away. I have no idea where to start so any advice from you all would be welcome. Do I do one room at a time or bits from wherever? What do you all think is the best way?

I was in the cupboard under the stairs

I gave up counting after I chucked out 40 used jiffybags/plastic mailing sacks/ manky tissue paper etc. I have no idea why I kept them as I rarely sell on Ebay and use new mailing bags when I do. Cupboard looks immediately much tidier :o

When's the move? Do you know where you're moving to? That may make quite a lot of difference :D

There are those who believe in clearing one small area at a time, eg starting with one drawer or one pile of stuff and keeping that area clean. Since you're moving, that might be good for when you get into your new place.

There's also the 3 box method: one box for keeps, one for recycle or charity shop and a box of rubbish. Important thing for this one is getting boxes 2 and 3 out of your abode.

However, since you're moving, you need to ask the all important question: do I want to pay to move this? Will it be any use when I get to the new place?

    Hope that helps!

Not sure when the move will be yet but want to be prepared ready. The 3 box idea sounds like a good one Thanks

  • Hi everyone, lovely day again.

Have been busy and lots decluttered recently.

Cleared the room of gloom (only the bare plaster on walls & ceiling for last 18 months so it has been used for 'storage' and decorated plus repainted boys' shared room so they now have a room each. The clutter has now moved into the garage although I have been through and recycled/binned some of it already.

Above has used several tins of paint, brushes etc so they are gone from garage.

Sold a washer/dryer, 2 baby carriers and buggy sunshade on G'tree.

Several bags of books/clothes/baby toys taken to charity shop.

Finally decluttered the 3ft high ironing pile!

Kitchen surfaces now cleared of anything which shouldn't be there and cupboards tidy and stocked.

Most of the one-off washing (jackets, blankets etc) has been done and put away.

Just got to keep focussed and get as much gone as possible. I really want to get it done before the end of Sept as I'm fed up with it all hanging around and would like to go into the autumn relatively sorted.

Hello, I'm still on the de-cluttering trail, but I haven't been working that hard on it recently.

Most of the things that now need to go are larger items. I don't want to get them all down from the loft, as it will just clutter the house again.

However, in the autumn, I'll start getting one thing down at a time - deal with it, whether it's eBay, bin or recycling. Then I'll deal with the next thing.

In recent months I've tried selling a few of my old LPs on eBay. This has been successful so I will be doing more of this.

But I'm stopping for the time being. I'm away for quite a long holiday in September, so I'm now going to concentrate on getting ready for my hols.

My last few weeks de-cluttering is as follows

    320 Bra – clothing bank
    321 3 LP records –eBay
    322 3 jigsaws – eBay
    323 20 old postcards - eBay
324 1970’s storage box for photographic slides - eBay
    325 Book – Greenmetropolis
326 1970’s AA Book of the Car – eBay
    327 Old makeup – bin
    328 5 1970’s textbooks – eBay
    329 1970’s film splicer - eBay
