And a Happy New Year to all:D

December wasn't the best of months for reasons I won't go in to. However, I'm back for January and would like to declare 6 items to the charity shop, 2 to clothes recycling and 2 piles of items due to leave the house. Also generated an extra bag of recycling and rubbish so that's a total of 10.

However, I must get on with finishing my tax calculations so here I go. Well, after I've made one of these:coffee:

Thank you for the thread CM. I joined you last year and managed to declutter a huge amount. Then, things started to pile up again. I now have huge amounts of my late father's things to declutter to family around the world.
I am going to aim for 200 items this month.

Hi, am merrily decluttering paperwork at the moment. I've discovered a lovely little trick because I wear glasses for reading and need to shred paperwork (in my case, tons of already sorted bags of papers that must be shredded and that I've been carrying around for years).

Take the glasses off! You can still see well enough to get the paper safely into the shredder but you can't read what's on the papers to change your mind or get distracted by it. :D

    Oh and a happy less-cluttered 2013 to everyone. :)

13 toiletries offloaded (mostly to bin due to being empty / way out of date / not used by anyone in the house) and very nice exotic lime and ginger sticks opened and on window sill (which I can now get to lol) a very good start to 2013 (actuallyended up ditching over 20 items but aim is to get to 13 then anything more is a stress-free bonus)

I'm going to join you all if I may. The whole house seems to be cluttered and just looking at it is energy zapping! So here's January's tasks:
    1. Christmas decs - there is still stuff up in the loft we didn't use. DH has bought some plastic boxes with lids so we are going to get all the stuff down and sort through it - throw out or give to CS what we don't need and pack and label what we want to keep.
    2. We have to have a new boiler which means there will be space for an airing cupboard (current boiler so big it takes up the whole cupboard). So new shelves to be fitted in boiler cupboard for towels/bedding. So will sort through all bedding/towels. Limiting bedding to three sets for each bed, anything else will go to CS.
    3. Wardrobe - love the idea of putting coat hangers wrong way round. I need to sort clothes out into winter/summer and store what's not in season to free up some space.
    4. DH and I need to sort out the magazines - his walking mags, my fashion/knitting/craft mags. We've bought some box files and plastic wallets so that we can sort out what we want to keep and file away.
    5. Need to sort out bills/statements/receipts/guarantees/etc. We have filing cabinets and folders but I've let things slip so need to get back on track.
I think that is enough to start with. Funny how writing it out makes it feel as if it is achievable.

Happy New Year everyone. Like many I am feeling a little frayed at the edges this morning so I am not setting my sights too high!

Yesterday I made it to the recycling centre and got rid of loads of cardboard, plastic, mobile phones and cables, a large bag of old clothes plus our usual recycling.

I have also put my two new cookery books away and got rid of 5 that I never use. A friend took 2 and the other 3 will go to the CS.

Also got rid of a chipped glass bowl and two pairs of chop sticks. Did a quick 'sweep' of the kitchen and put a casserole dish, salt and pepper pots, a garlic jar and an onion jar in the CS box.

I think that might have to be it for today as I really am fit for very little! Had a great night with friends though so it was (almost) worth it :D

    Have a good day

Got rid of 1 black bag full of shredded paperwork, and an armful of glass and plastic bottles, cardboard and cans accumulated over the last few days went into the recycling bin.

I have washed my 'old' dressing gown ready to donate to the CS due to getting a 'new' one for Christmas. It is still perfect, fleecy and cosy, and someone will love it :)

2012 calendars have gone into the recycling.

Still plenty more to do though - and back to work tomorrow
  • 73 items so far in a hour... and that's just from the bathroom and my make up bags!

Found a few things that i'll take into work for our swaps box - after last Christmas, I set up a box at work that if anyone had stuff they didn't want but they wouldn't buy from someone they didn't know (make-up, perfume they had got bored of, unwanted gifts etc.) we stuck it in the swap box. If you saw something you liked, you made a small donation to take it and it went to the nominated charity of the month. It's a great way of getting rid of perfectly good stuff that might not be sold in a charity shop.

2 binbags of misc plastic and an entire brown bin of vegetation gone from the garden. That's cleared about 2 square feet of the patio!
