I was so proud of the drawer which now contains only things we actually use that I even made my husband ooh and aah over it. Needless to say, he couldn't have cared less although he made all the right noises :rotfl:

I love this, so similar to what would happen in our house!

As expected, I didn't get v much done on the decluttering side yesterday with house tidying and cooking for our dinner party last night. I did manage to sneak out a bowl full of rubbish cracker toys though. Normally the kids would get their claws into this kind of tat then not want be to get rid of it, so much easier to nip it in the bud first!
DD (aged 5) really impressed me yesterday too. Asked her to tidy her room, she came back down with 3 books to get rid of. 2 are books she doesn't really like, the other is damaged and she got another copy of the story for Christmas. She was complaining afterwards that she has too many books as she was given quite a few for Christmas and they don't now all fit on her bookcase. I have suggested she could get rid of a few more so we shall see...

    Happy New Year everyone.

Well I sent 5 bin bags of stuff to the CS yesterday so I made a good start. Just have to see what else I can get rid of now.

Right, yesterday didn't go too well on the decluttering front (listed 1 item on ebay and that was it), so I decided that today would be better.

Before breakfast I got rid of:
    2 make up bags
    8 toiletry bottles
    2 keyrings
    1 ring
    1 necklace
    4 knickers
3 tops (returned to my Mum)
    1 bath puff
9 odd socks (hoarded by my OH)
    1 little box
    1 book
    3 box lids
    3 wedding booklets
    4 gift sets

Not bad before breakfast! Now told the kids they have to get rid of 10 items each now.

Sounds like a well trained man! My dad came round and I made him look at my spice drawers and he pretended to be impressed!

My challenge for today is the cupboard under the kitchen sink, the cupboard under the cutlery drawer and, if I don't get ten things from there, then I'll tackle some more bits in the bedroom.

  • hi all not totally new to the forum, have been a cautious reader over the last few years, but now i am spurred into joining as i want to be in on the declutter & need a push with it.

am aiming for chucking / donating / selling 13 things a day and making a massive dent in the crazyness that is our house, unsure if 36 items a day is realistic or not i will see how it goes. Do i stop once i get to the 13 or carry on but then leave myself without a challenge the next day....?

any advice more then welcome - thank you for having me x

The kids have somewhat stroppily complied, they've managed to come up with:
10 toys from my daughter's room
13 books (mostly duplicate Christmas presents, have told my daughter if she is good I well let her choose some replacements)
    1 calendar
    1 dolls house
    2 little people

I make that 70 items decluttered today. Shall I try to make it to 100 or call it a day for now?

Doodledoo why not aim at 13 a day in total then anything extra will be a bonus? It's very tempting to set high targets then burn out. 365*13 is 4745 which should make some dent! I like this idea so much i'm going to do it myself:-)

  • Morning!

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for the encouragement y'day, I achieved far more than I would have thought possible.

I did resort to putting some stuff of OH in the loft to be dealt with when he's ready, conquering my fear of getting stuck in the loft! Other than that, I've got 2 bin bags of paper/cardboard recycling to go, 2 boxes of plastic recycling, the bin is full again despite being emptied y'day morning and I have 2 huge boxes for the charity shop when they reopen...

Put all my summer clothes away so that my winter clothes now fit into the wardrobe, and as I did that put 4 tops and 2 pairs of jeans into the charity box. Off to sort out the socks now, have run out of dusters but figured I could use a couple of old socks and put them in the textile recycling after a rinse.

Feeling really positive and have decided that 30 mins a day of housework/decluttering as I go will be the way forward this year.
