WOW you are all so busy busy busy - well done:A

I have decided against tackling my wardrobe and under my bed as we have friends coming tonight and staying for a couple of days so I am catering again and it took a bit longer than I thought it would to get the food sorted out. Anyway, its done now and I am having a quiet 10 mins with a cup of coffee :D
However, I am determined to keep up the momentum and so I did the bathroom cabinet which wasn't in such a bad state and but the drawers were so it was nice to get those done. Also, don't need to worry about guest opening doors and drawers and getting buried alive :rotfl:
I have also cleaned out the fridge before refilling it with tonight's goodies. When I was rooting about in the pantry looking for the sherry for the trifle I found 4 cans of lager dated 2008:eek: so they have been emptied and the cans put in the recycling.

Finally, I took the remaining two bottles of washing detergent out of a very large box under the stairs (bulk buy from AF) and put said box in the back of the car ready to recycle.

At some point this afternoon I need to go and see Mum and Dad so I will go via the recycling centre and get rid of everything stacked in the car except the CS boxes which will need to wait until later in the week.

Small steps but I feel better for doing something!

Happy New Year everyone. I hope 2013 is everything you want it to be:beer:

Think I'm going to go for 10 items a day, for the first week of January, then will see how I've got on.

For today, I've started by listing an outfit on ebay, that's one down, 9 to go.

    Hello everyone

Some fantastic efforts, well done. The new year will see my decluttering efforts continue, I need to clean out the kitchen cupboards, some out of date flour has already gone. The wheelie bin and recycling boxes were emptied today so they are just waiting for me to fill them up again.

Will be back in the new year to catch up with you all. Have a lovely evening whatever your plans.

I've been in a sort of re-cluttering inertia over the Christmas period, but seeing everybody's efforts has spurred me on.

We are very lucky to have a good recycling centre about 5 minutes walk away with a clothing bank and bins for small electrical goods. Plus, the local council are very good for collecting recycling such as paper, bottles, plastics, so there is no excuse not to recycle - it's easy.

So today I've done the following

1 Assorted packaging and plastic bags –recycling
2 Two dried up nail polishes – bin
3 One broken Dictaphone – small electrical recycling bin
4 Three tops – charity bag
5 Seven tops – clothing bank
6 Various old underwear – clothing bank
7 Pair of pyjamas – clothing bank
8 Pair of slippers – clothing bank
    9 2009 – 2012 diaries – recycling
    10 Assortedmagazines / brochures / catalogues recycling

I've also identified some tops for eBaying. This time last year when I was de-cluttering I thought I'll wear those tops in 2012, but I never did. So they really must go in 2013. I'll be photographing them when we have a bright day, it's far too dull for taking pictures today

I finally got started today and got rid of a load of plastic tat/beads/broken toys from my daughter's stash.
It's a small step but got us out of the blocks!

    UPDATE!

I've finally made a start on trying to clear the things left in my bedroom at my parents home.

So far in about 30 minutes I've managed to clear out under my desk and fill half a bin liner of rubbish, half a bin liner of recycling and then a supermarket bag full of other empty carrier bags.

I've decided to bag up all the empty plastic bags together and take them home to my flat tomorrow. I'm then going to empty out the rammed cupboard of carrier bags in my flat and give them all to the Ocado driver when he comes on Wednesday. I've only just found out that they will collect anyone's bags and not just their own, so I thought this would be a good way to dispose of them without sending them to landfill.

It's still very small progress but it feels good to have made a start.

I'm taking the advice I got here and finding it easier to quickly chuck things that I have no attachment to - out of date crisp packets, receipts etc. Although I'll still have the harder items to deal with at a later date at least I will have started to make more space and got used to parting with things.

I'm hoping that as I see the benefit of clearing the room it will motivate me more to finish it off properly. I don't even live here anymore but I want to get it sorted for my parents sake.

Will let you know how the next phase goes! Thanks for all your help so far!
  • 48 Ebay items posted. Not quite as impressive as it sounds, as 42 were the same item in a bulk order, but quite a bit of space freed up. A 2011 diary, why did I still have that ?

Been down to my storage unit and brought some flatpack furniture back for construction.

Working tomorrow so no decluttering, but hopefully back on track on Wednesday.

Happy New Year everyone, and happy decluttering :T

Today I've shredded another bag of old statements and taken that and my old cards down to the recycling bins near home.

Had a quick tidy of the lounge but needs a proper going over, when we take all the decorations down, maybe tomorrow.

Cleaned and tidied the kitchen and put the recycling stuff in our recycling bin, so I don't have to look at it anymore.

OH and kids out all day at football tomorrow, so will attack the kids rooms, and get rid of things i know they don't no longer need or are broken. I find it easier to do when they aren't in, as if I ask them to help nothing ever gets sorted just moved around the room.

    Happy new year everyone.
2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family.
It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,000

Hi all - can I join please? I have LOADS of decluttering to do!

    1) 3 wardrobes of work clothes that I no longer need as I've retired. I did manage to get rid of some evening wear on eBay before Christmas but I need to get photographing again

    2) DH built a Trike and we have the reamins of 2 Honda Goldwings in the garage - some of that has gone but that's also another photo job.

    3) I'd love to hit our loft. Still got stuff from 2 sons & when my mum died I packed a lot of her things in boxes & put them in the loft. 11 years ago..............! Emotional attachment has somewhat subsided so I now feel I can deal with it more easily.

    4) Small bedroom - full of old photos that I need to re-photo onto digital format so I can keep them on disc. Loads of fabric that I've never got round to using. Lots of books that need passing on.

Plus all the usual odds & sods. Did manage to clear out all my old baking stuff before Christmas too - I tend to put anything that is still useful on Freecycle

Oh dear - now I've written it down it looks worse :(
Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
