  • Could i please join for 2013. My house needs a major declutter.

My first task will be to tackle the paper mountain. When I've got it clear I'll keep it sorted this time.
As it is I've four big boxes full and another box of stuff for shredding.

I also want to clear one other item a day for January.

Been away for a couple of days, so all OH and I have decluttered today is the leftover bit of turkey and ham pie, the rest of the sprouts and some chocolate fudge cake and cream :o

Raring to go tomorrow though :D

Lean to and paper work to start I think :T

Also get ready to go back to work :(

the box of paperwork from my bedroom has had a first brief sift through to get rid of the obvious recycling. I hope to tackle the rest of it into plastic wallets tomorrow.

1 piece of christmas greenery from the kitchen to composting, my old lap top (because I CAN'T fix it, no matter how much I want to, it has no battery the socket for the power cable doesn't connect and the central keys on the keyboard don't work) and some jars that I've finished straight to recycling (I'm a terror for keeping kenco coffee jars etc).

More a sort of keeping bumbling along day rather than a major clearout :)

good luck for new year everyone

Spent over 2 hrs of my New years eve night clearing my old paperwork and organizing things in clear wallets.Feels good to finally on my way to being organized.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Clutter-Free New Year xxx
  • Well the last day of the month/year saw a few things decluttered from our house:

    132 Old 2012 diary
133, 134 2 old pillows found under the sofa bed
135-138 4 boxes of daughter's stuff we were storing for her - gone back to her house
139 A scarf I knitted for 'something to do'.... won't wear it so will charity shop it
140 Inflatable walker; don't ask! Bought it as a joke present for my mum's birthday, but as we got her the real thing this never got to her. Only cost £1 at a boot fair so I don't mind letting go of it
    141 Sympathy card sent off

Did a couple of jobs off my list today too, so not an entirely wasted day. Grandson (nearly 5) arrived at 4pm to stay over while his mum and dad have a New Year's Eve party. He's disabled so needs watching all the time in case he falls over and hurts himself, no not much gets done when he's here. He's still awake now (10.55 pm) so I don't think he's going to go to sleep again until next year!!!

Managed 141 things in December, so that's over 500 things gone since August.... Never knew I still had so much in the house after my major declutter of May, June and July!!!

Happy New Year to everyone, and Keep On Decluttering!!!
Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

Bin man came this morning so first thing was putting rubbish in newly emptied bin. Now full but hall clear. Unfortunately dump shut due to flooding so may need to go further afield in New Year to dump mattress. Have also filled recycling boxes (plastic and glass). Then spent 30 mins tidying, freshening and cleaning the upstairs by which time Dd2 had refilled hall with bags of stuff for chucking and for CS. Catchy this decluttering bug (though DS seems to have natural immunity lol)

Hi Debbie, you have just told us what is making this so difficult for you - you picked some items out! Touching things makes it much more difficult to let them go - something about the psychology of ownership. If you must go through things one by one, have somebody else pick them up and show them to you. Hands off!

If you can brace yourself and just biff the whole pile without going through it, things will be much easier. If you don't even know what's in the pile then you aren't likely to miss it, need it, or want it :)

Hi Honeythief, thank you I just couldn't understand it. I can clear out other places or items easily and be ruthless but when it comes to my clothes I find this difficult. I don't even think any of the clothes in the drawer fits me and I also tend to wear the same clothes even when I've bought new items.

You are all so inspirational on this forum and providing great advice.

    thanks

    Debbie

Been at work today so not starting the declutter till tomorrow. Bought some new socks at Mr T on my way home reduced to £2 for four pairs. Got two packs so going to start on the sock drawer. Should I count the drawer as 1 item decluttered or individual pairs of socks?

I'd go for pairs of socks personally.

I've done my kitchen drawers. They are all lovely. I keep going and opening them to have another look!
I'm so glad I'm not the only person sad enough to do this! I decluttered our second drawer down yesterday - got rid of all sorts of things, including two sets of chopsticks and chopstick rests (we use forks), a second garlic press (we don't even use fresh garlic unless we're desperate as the jar is so much easier), two metal vegetable peelers (I always use the ceramic one) and three bottle openers (leaving a corkscrew and another bottle opener still in the drawer).

I was so proud of the drawer which now contains only things we actually use that I even made my husband ooh and aah over it. Needless to say, he couldn't have cared less although he made all the right noises :rotfl:
