  • Hi
    Mineallmine,
Yeah I'm not sure about toasting in the New Year on my dining table :eek:but maybe by the end of this week if I make the effort every night after work. I think my DH may faint if I finish it but DS will be delighted, as will I!

At least if the table gets cleared I can then make a start through the big box, that will take a while. Once that's done then I can finally repaint the room, it's still half painted from the last time I tried to tidy which is years ago but I painted round the furniture  so it currently looks dreadful.

Yeah I know what you mean about CS being swamped at this time of year. We have a textile bank down the road from me so I could put the clothes in there, it raises money for the local school.

ex does NOT want them, in fact I still have about a room's worth of stuff that belongs to him, that he wants but "not right now" - we seperated nearly 4 years ago, hmmmm.....).

I read good advice online about this sort of thing. Give your ex a deadline to remove his things. Explain that if he doesn't meet the deadline, you will immediately sell the most valuable item(s) on eBay at whatever price they might get to raise money to have somebody pack and move the rest of the things to him. If he says he has nowhere to store it, explain that you will continue to sell the most valuable items until you raise enough money to pay for a month's storage for the remainder, after which is it his problem. Then make sure you act on it and get his stuff out of your house! Why should you be paying rent/mortgage or just giving up your real estate to act as his storage facility?

Today I'm going to fill up the car with whatever it can hold and take it to our local recycling centre/dump, and then re-fill the car boot with wooden offcuts for a friend we're visiting tomorrow who has wood-fired home heating. That should free up some space in the garage - there are boxes full of general rubbish and things that aren't fit to be donated to a charity shop, so it will be good to clear that out!

My resolution for 2013 is to declutter at least 365 items, with a minimum of 7 per week for the 52 weeks. That is to ensure that I don't dump half my possessions in January, consider the job well done, and spend the rest of the year buying more things that I don't need to fill the space left!

One of my aims for 2013 is to declutter a significant amount of unused/unwanted/unloved items from our home throughout the year.

We have already made an early start on this, DD's car boot is now full of stuff for her to drop at the local charity shop when she next passes that way...if she remembers!

I try to stick to the 'one thing in, one thing out' rule, but we still have a vast amount of bric-a-brac and other stuff to declutter.

I hope to get rid of at least a few items a week, but possibly far more than that. In the past few years we have had massive declutters filling up a whole detached garage, but there is still much more to be done before i am happy with the state of our home.

He is sleeping on sofa bed until we get him a new bed, but do we get a plain divan or one with drawer? Will the drawers hold more rubbish or be usefull storage for his stuff?

Although as he is nearly 11 now, it's mainly Xbox! Out of toy stage

We bought our Ds a wooden framed bed, then bought a few long storage boxes for underneath...they slide in and out. Now we have DD too, we've done the same with her bed and our kingsize. I think they are fab xx

Now look, I'm not having this! I go away for one day and you fill up five more pages, I can't declutter if I have to read all that first. :rotfl: Seriously, well done all, aren't you amazing doing all thif flinging!

Have finally flung a HUGE book which I was using for my hints/tips/crafts etc, now all neatly filled in a loose leaf folder which will soon house all my stuff from big books. So much easier.

Have found a good template for making a storage box, will cover with fabric from the enormous amount I have and will look fab on top shelf in the wardrobe, planning on making three: one will be general storage and the other two will house socks/hosiery and fabrics.

Hubby is planning on selling some of his guitars, he will (hopefully!!) sell six but buy maybe two or three, so will still be three down.

Kitty has decluttered two of the jangly balls she had for Xmas, flipping things broke - good job I was playing with her or she might have choked on the bits, am VERY not please, anyone hurting my girl is likely to be met with disemboweling. Grrr

Well done all, keep up the flinging :)

    Hi everyone

decluterring never went to plan today. I was hoping to clear out a bedroom drawer that is full of clothes I don't wear or have never worn. Some still have labels on. I picked some items out and thought maybe I will wear them at some point even though I've had these clothes for years. This is going to be difficult.

Hi Debbie, you have just told us what is making this so difficult for you - you picked some items out! Touching things makes it much more difficult to let them go - something about the psychology of ownership. If you must go through things one by one, have somebody else pick them up and show them to you. Hands off!

If you can brace yourself and just biff the whole pile without going through it, things will be much easier. If you don't even know what's in the pile then you aren't likely to miss it, need it, or want it :)

...and we're done! Well, the boot is still full of wood but that's only until tomorrow.

I started clearing our very large double garage about six weeks ago and at the start we couldn't see any of the walls or much of the floor. My husband could park the car in there with just enough room to open the driver's door, but I didn't dare even attempt it. Trying to find anything involved a Tetris-like shifting of boxes and sliding sideways through gaps to get to where the item was. Now we can see most of the walls and most of the floor, and when we want something we walk straight to where it is! Very proud of my efforts (all my own work as it was mostly my own or shared stuff, not his stuff) even though there is a long way to go yet.

My biggest regret right now is not taking a "before" photo. I didn't think of it until the declutter was well under way. Oh well, my memory will have to suffice.
  • I'm a terrible hoarder! Managed to throw out three bags today and fill a sack to put on ebay. Tomorrow I tackle the wardrobes! Step by step...

:hello: I'd like to join in too, please :p I have a house full of toot that needs to go. Trouble is I want to ebay/Amazon/car boot it as I'm saving for a deposit so I'm reluctant to just chuck it out :o. I also need to declutter my belly :rotfl:.

So my goals for 2013 are:-
    • declutter the house
    • lose weight
    • save a ton of money for deposit
Hopefully this thread will keep me motivated. HNY everyone and good luck _party_
