I've done the shoe cupboard and released 2 large carrier bags of shoes that no longer fit the children (why have I kept them?????). These are in the boot of the car for the charity shop, together with some really good quality curtains (2 large pairs) that I hate the pattern of but couldn't let go because they were good quality and exMIL gave them to us (ex does NOT want them, in fact I still have about a room's worth of stuff that belongs to him, that he wants but "not right now" - we seperated nearly 4 years ago, hmmmm.....).

DVDs will be done tonight, but childminder is ill so my rare day off tomorrow without kids as a treat for my birthday is a no go, so not sure what I'll get accomplished but I'll try :)

I think you need to give your ex a deadline to collect his junk...say 31st Jan 2013 or it goes to tip/charity shop/ebay sounds fair to me;)

Great stuff Tiglath. Now you get to look after your glass stuff and get the nasties out :j

Someone will love those curtains Lobby and they'll be just what someone needs. You need to hatch a plan for your ex's stuff. That's bad vibes sitting in your home. Could the stuff go to his mum's? Perhaps they have a garage. This is your space. Time to reclaim it :)

Bubble - why not get your son to help you (if he's old enough). Even if you just clear it today you'll feel loads better. Let us know how you get on :j

Great stuff Rummer :) I recently removed 20 odd boxes from the loft for kettles that I no longer own and got rid off years ago.... I always think too much of that stuff can be a fire hazard too. All gone to recycling now :)

My hubby loves PC bits nearlyrich so I laughed when I saw the words DOS! Great sorting :)

Once I'd posted on here I couldn't wait to 3pm! I cleared up in the kitchen, lots of recycling knocking around. Put some tins away cluttering up the surface. Then whizzed round the house picking up bits. Brought some shelving down that's knackered and will be going to the tip. Left some windows open while we did this to get some fresh air in too.

Going to do another 15 minutes declutter. I've decided that I don't need to keep a set of plates we no longer use. They have a tinged memory so it's best that they go I think. Will also give some room for the pyrex which is always balancing on something or other.

Had a quick sort out of the spice cupboard whilst taking out the bits I need to make chilli for dinner. Ditched some old seasoning sachets and a whole set of spices which were given to us as a gift. I was trying to work out how long we have had these, I think at least 5 1/2 years as they moved house with us, twice!!

Off to get that chilli cooked now...

Managed to sort out the bottom of another wardrobe this afternoon, and get 2 boxes of stuff into one, to keep and the other one now has stuff for the car boots, I am planning on doing this year, as at least it is all in one place for the when better weather comes.

Sorted out and shredded calendars from the past 8 years - why I kept them I'd don't know but all now shredded they are going out the house in a bin bag.

My problem is keeping cards that we are given - christmas; birthdays; valentines ect, I find it very hard to through these things away. Have had a huge cull this afternoon, and only kept the ones I have given to my OH, or handmade cards i've received (I make cards in my spare time, and like to keep the ones I receive for inspiration). So I have gone from having 5 carrier bags of cards, down to one bag, so feeling really pleased with myself.

Popping to work for a few hours tomorrow, so will try and clean the lounge a bit when I get back.
2016 is the year I am going to find time for me, and cherish the time I spend with my friends and family.
It is also time to save - Aim £4,000 - So far this year - £230/£4,000

I'd like to be in for 2013. I de-cluttered a few bits last year but really like the idea of decluttering 365 things this year. Working tomorrow but keen to start on New Year's Day. Probably going to start with underwear drawer and going to set DH up with the task of tackling many years of bank statements. I had a kindle for Christmas so although it isn't exactly decluttering at least I won't be bringing any books into the house this year so that should help.
Make £10 per day in July £45.48/£310
    June £232.66, May £310.36, April £310.19, March £287.32, February £250.18, January £257.24
    Swagbucks in 2015 £65/£150

Hello all, some great decluttering going on - keep it up!

Managed to get OH to tackle the cookbook shelf. We had 2 shelves completely filled with cookbooks. I took off all the ones we had not used in a year - it was only half a shelf's worth! It is a sore point for OH in particular, but after a bit of negotiating, we got rid of 20 odd, and have half a shelf back :D.

OH was on a bit of a roll then, and decided we should tackle the fiction books downstairs, and the shelves in DS room which we're using as overflow. A few hours later we're all exhausted but glad to say we have over 100 books to go :j:j! I have my 'desert island' shelf of books I read, love and have/will reread. I have another shelf and a third of books I intend to read. We now have about a shelf and a half spare (not including cookbook shelf which is now displaying some ornaments). Just need to decide which books will go on the empty ones, all our fiction is now downstairs so perhaps some of my favourite books I want to give more time to. OH was amazing with fiction - bought him a kindle 2 years ago and now he has come to the point where he doesn't feel the need to keep a single fiction book - he'll just get them digitally if he wants !

Ama$on trade in is offering an extra £5 when you trade in £15 worth of books, so plan to trade in as much as I can tomorrow, that'll be a start for next Xmas' present fund :D.

    Will update, but for now:
    1. broken ornament - bin
    2. Sister's wedding video - recycling. i don't have a video player and she has it on dvd, so will ask for a copy next time am there.
    3-4. ornaments - charity.
    5-6. 2 stones (?) - bin.
    7. packaging from DS presents that have been unwrapped - recycling
    8. returned DVD to neighbour
    9. snowman decoration I HATE - cs
    10. photo printer paper I won't use - to give to mum
    11. miniature backgammon game never played - cs
    12 - 104. 93 books - charity :j:j:j
    105. moth eaten cashmere sock :( - bin
    106. worn sock - bin
    107. cable don't know what for - charity.

PLUS another 10 items or so listed on ama$on (will count when sell) and 4 items traded-in for £15.14 (+ £5 with special offer :D - will count these when post).

Met my January target in one day - so am going to up it to 200 ! Anyone else in??

During the Christmas period I have managed to read most of my newspaper supplements that I have been behind reading over the last few months, they have all now gone in the recycling bin that is being emptied tomorrow.

Happy New Year to you all and happy decluttering.

  • Another inspirational thread on which I have lurked for some time in 2012. This week I've cleared out a bin bag of toys out of DD2's room, and sorted all the rest into little plastic drawers.. there is a floor! a bin bag of clothes too. DD1's room also got tackled 2 bin bags of clothes and 3 bags of toys from her room as well.
Not sure what to do with it all. Some is only good for the tip, but is it worth ebaying toys at this time of year? Or store it for boot sales later?
Shoes.. someone mentioned shoes... ? (or I may well have been reading an older thread) thats on the todo for tomorrow, that and our wardrobes.
I have plenty that doesn't fit any more, for some reason hubby needs 3 wardrobes of shirts... don't think thats happening any more. :D
I shall let you know how I get on!
  • Hi everyone

decluterring never went to plan today. I was hoping to clear out a bedroom drawer that is full of clothes I don't wear or have never worn. Some still have labels on. I picked some items out and thought maybe I will wear them at some point even though I've had these clothes for years. This is going to be difficult.

I have found a couple of things in a cupboard to put on ebay that I am about to do.
