Also on my to do for the year is to sort photos out. We have loads stored on a hard drive but I haven't sorted any out since around three years ago:eek: I ordered a new portable hard drive which I have yet to remove from the packaging, but the idea is to sort them all out into neat files then use the new hard drive as a back up. I'd be so upset if we lost them all, they really should be stored in more than one place!
I have managed a run this morning which has got me all motivated and that should help declutter some flab. Not much more decluttering to be done today as I'm off shopping to buy bits for new years eve dinner we are hosting for some friends tomorrow. Need to buy food and get it prepped/cooked today. Cleaning will be done tomorrow so decluttering will start on 1st of Jan I think (depending on the hangover!).0 -
Been through my food cupboards and moved `my` food to top shelf- stuff for my new eating plan.
but on the upside i managed to go through my spices and herbs and get rid of half of them as out of date.
Also means i have a storecupboard list so i will be able to make a meal plan.0 -
on a roll, just hope i can keep it up?
Logged on to my emails and moved to folders and deleated them all.
will try not to let it build up this time.0 -
Well I intended decuttering but had swift kick in right direction this am!
Some cheeky mouse has nibbled the spare linen in airing cupboard!!!
So it's now empty bar some boxes!
All linen inspected and nibbled ones thrown rest in machine, this showed I hoarded tooo much so I'll iron this lot and keep 2 sets per bed and recycle the rest!
Now I'm in mood to throw and recycle I'll tackle my wardrobe
And go from there!!!:A :j0 -
Just sat down with a cuppa, so far sorted the top kitchen cupboards, mostly food in these, few things out of date, food colouring, spices and value salt that i brought to make playdough for the kids a good few years!!! Have made a meal plan and shopping list, will pop to sm this afternoon then will start an online colection order for the following week. Thrown 4 items out so that should bring me on target for 10 items today, off to the bathroom next, I am sure I can fill all the half empty shampoo and conditioners, bubble bath etc into one of each bottle that will make a huge difference.
I have a huge pile of christmas item to go in the loft, I should really sort them before going up but for now the loft can wait a few weeks, will make a start on this when the kids are back at school and I can eBay/Facebook etc
Kitchen is spic and span, feeling good about that, bathroom next today.
My bedroom tomorrow, could take a few days! I have quite a big cupboard that has a desk in with all my craft stuff, but I can't actually get in there!! I have set myself another challenge of scrap booking a page a week as didn't do 1 last year as it was just too much hassle to find anything, so a major sort out need there - I am actually looking forward to sorting this out.
Plan to do paperwork later after making ds birthday invites and christmas and you cards.
Will check in later0 -
I definitely need to declutter too! Currently living back with my parents post-uni & job hunting (thankfully working in retail whilst searching for msc related job!) but have so much stuff I need to sort & get rid of in preparation for when I get a job & move back out (living on the optimistic side of life at the moment!). If I can make a bit of extra money while I do it that would help. Looks like I'll get some motivation from this thread :-) going to start with my wardrobe.£2 savers #121: £1820

Hi, I want to join this thread as my house is full to bursting with stuff and reading all of your posts really makes me want to try and get on top of it.
We did start last night with our dining room, one half is clear but the worst is still to be tackled. The dining room table is covered in paperwork which needs to be gone through, it's basically become a dumping ground for everything! Kids have been nagging me or past few months to clear the table so we can sit and eat there instead of the usual lap trays whilst sitting on the sofa.
I find decluttering quite stressful because I get in a tizzy about where to put things that I want to keep and I end up with more of those dreaded piles of stuff building up elsewhere in the house. But I know I really do need to declutter because my house makes me quite depressed when I get home from work and look at the state of the place. I know I will never live in a house that resembles a show home but to get it tidy enough to let my kids friends round to play would be quite an achievement and not being embarrassed to let anyone through my front door!
Any advice on tips so I don't get too overwhelmed would be appreciated. I really do want to get my house more organised but not hugely sure the best way to achieve it. thanks. X0 -
Storage boxes are good as are plastic wallets and ring binders, check out the local £1 shop.
Or just go to the supermarket and get some cardboard boxes to start with, label, keep, charity shop,eBay etc. then go through a box at a time.
And remember all the stuff has built up over time, so do not expect it all to be gone, or in its proper place in a matter of days.0 -
1. I looked in the under kitchen sink cupboard today and it is a mess so I'm going to tackle that in a minute. I think there is some stuff that needs to be thrown in the bin and some empty bottles to recycle.
2. I bought my pet's flea and worm treatment online in bulk and I need a new place to put it so I am going to declutter the two drawers in my coffee table to make some space.mineallmine wrote: »If you're struggling to part with stuff what's helped me is to think of a charity getting some much needed funds. I lost my best friend to cancer and donating stuff to a hospice charity shop felt good :A
:T I am donating an exercise bike to my local hospice shop, I was going to sell it but then I thought I would rather they had the money as I know some charities are struggling at the moment.0 -
