    Spare room not finished yet. I got bored. I have loads of stuff for the charity shop and quite a bit to go into the bin.

    Decided to start on the drawers in my bedroom. Been through 3 of them and now have 2 carrier bags of underwear and pajamas to put in bin as well. I can shut the drawers properly now. Will attempt the other 2 drawers tomorrow and maybe the wardrobe if I get time.

    :hello: good morning everybody - good to be back into the swing of thngs once more. What a difference a week makes ................. last weekend we were under a complete blanket of snow and almost got snow-bound in North Wales; this weekend we've had gorgeous sunshine, even though the air has still been very cold.

    Not managed to catch up on everybody's progress - will try to have a good read later.

    I've got a good thing to report - yesterday OH and I finally managed to manhandle the TD back downstairs to the entrance porch and shuftied the chest freezer to make room for it! They're not actually side-by-side - I wasn't going to make that mistake! Also had to take an extension lead down, as there's only one socket at the moment, but at least they're both capable of working at the same time :D.

    Getting rid of the single bed from in there has also freed up the coat hooks, so regularly worn outdoor coats are now neatly on coat hangers :T.

    That freed up space at the bottom of the landing cupboard, managed to clear the dust bunnies out of there (from TD) and have now put some of the plastic crates neatly stacked, the dirty clothes basket and the folded clothes airer. Looks great in there now - and will look even better once I get proper shelves fixed up :j.

    My sister visited my flat last week for the first time, and gave me a fresh perspective on things - basically, in HER opinion, my sofas are w-a-y too big and need replacing, and I don't need three side tables plus a 4ft coffee table in the Living Room. My F/F is too big, too dark and looks oppressive in my tiny kitchen; I've got too many electrical gadgets - I'll concede on that one :o - and I must get my kitchen wall units sorted asap :eek:. Have to admit that a smaller F/F would look much better plus would provide extra 'work space' or a home for the microwave

    Now that she's given her opinion so freely, I wonder if she'll also give me access to her Bank Account for the pennies to replace everything :rotfl:.

    I've been on the phone to see if the Builders Merchants are open for my kitchen units, but got no answer at 9.50 - will try again in a few mins.

    Have a good Easter Bank Holiday everybody - hope you manage to have a good time with your families/loved ones.

    speak again later, luv Lilyplonk xx
  • Morning All

    I seem to have slowed down considerably this morning, due to either (i) being off work for a while so less need to rush around like a lunatic or (ii) crash following amount of sugar consumed yesterday in form of chocolate :o. Either way, I need to find my decluttering/Spring cleaning motivation back as I know I will feel so much better when I've competed stuff that needs doing :).

    On the bright side, although cold here yesterday, it was sunny and breezy, so I got my first load of washing of 2013 actually dried outside on the whirlygig, that was good (and moneysaving).

    I treated myself to a new mobile phone which I will collect on Thursday, my old one really is on its last legs and could feasibly be featured on Antiques Roadshow :rotfl:. I have been saving for it for a few months, then the one I wanted was in a flash Easter sale, hurray, so got £20 off what was already the best price I could find. So, the decluttering may slow down as I figure out how to operate the new phone, although DS and DD will be able to show me no doubt!

    Today I am going to finish my kitchen declutter/Spring clean, at the very least. Paperwork is my nemesis, it really is, I try so hard to be ruthless and still it breeds :mad:.

    Happy Day all. Guineapigsqueaks x

    Spare room is now sorted. Only things to get rid of are a pile of cds which need sorting through. Mostly back-ups :D so to speak.

    Also have a box of books which I have been planning on selling. None of the cash for books websites take them though as they are popular fiction. Will try them again on ebay and if they don't sell after a couple of week it'll be the charity shop for them.

    Found loads of videos in the wardrobe, just need to figure out the best way to dispose of them now.

    I'm sure you know already but the parcel prices for Royal Mail change on Tuesday. The maximum depth of a small parcel is 8cm! Not very deep, the next size up is the medium which will cost £5.20 - £6.30 :eek: Letters and large letters will remain the same price.

    This is the link to the new prices. The UK ones are on page 2. I've put off listing this weekend so that I can try to make head and tail of it. I'm thinking of sending parcels through Collect+. Apologies if you already knew this. :)

    This is my excuse as to why I haven't decluttered much :p. I'm off for a whole week :j and the plan is to sort, declutter and clean. We've been looking at houses and I need to seriously declutter before we even think about moving. Who wants to pay £500 to remove junk from one place to another?!!

    Hi, purplevamp.

    Yes, I'd heard about the changes to the parcel rates.

    I think ebayers will need to be very careful about their packaging.

    For some large, light things, if they are low value, it's going to be barely worth selling them - who will pay £5.20 postage for a 99p item.

    There is one good thing - I like to sell my jigsaws after I've done them. Previously they cost £3.50 to send, now, as long as they are packed right, they'll cost £2.60.

    I reckon it'll be fun and games down the Post Office tomorrow. I'm staying well away from it all this week!

  • I'm very late to this thread but the Royal Mail postal cost rises have meant that I have now got round to decluttering just about all of my eBid stock.

    I have made weekly trips to charity stores in town in February and March and now just have to do a general tidying up of left over packaging (I'll give that to someone on Freegle).

    My guess is that my stock room will be completely empty by the end of May:beer:

    a makeup set (unopened)
    a pair of sandals
    an MP3 player
    a decorating stencil
    notelets set

    I also did a load of shredding yesterday whilst watching the TV.

  • Morning fellow declutterers :)

    The sun is mostly shining here and a good breeze, so WM on the go here and it's all going on the whirlygig. Got to start saving a bit on the energy bills as heating still on due to our artic weather. In fact, today I must read the meters and submit online to see where I'm at.

    Didn't quite finish my kitchen Spring clean/declutter yesterday, but spent FIVE hours in there getting on with it and singing along to the radio (you can't beat those 80s tunes) as DS and DD went out with their Dad. I've been on this task on and off for a couple of weeks so far, so going to aim to complete as a priority. Achieved so far:
    • Initial sort through cupboards, fair few items ousted;
    • Food cupboards neat and organised, including fridge and freezer;
    • Several sort throughs of paperwork corner of doom, quite a lot gone, but not finished yet;
    • Ceiling de-cobwebed, both light fittings also and wiped over;
    • Tops of all cupboards cleaned (yuk);
    • All cupboards, sides, worksurfaces, tiles cleaned down with Stardr*ps and polished up;
    • Floor swept and mopped (I had a new mop :));
    • Both windows washed down/cleaned, blinds dusted, windowsills and contents cleaned (only pretty or useful things returned );
    • Back door cleaned, white paintwork of door to hall and door cleaned;
    • Half of wallpaper wiped down with Stardr*ps, you wouldn't believe the muck, it didn't look dirty :o.
    I had to stop last night as light began to fade, it's not so easy to see in artificial light. Also was exhausted!

    So, I think still to do:
    • Wipe down rest of wallpaper;
    • Rest of white paintwork (skirting boards) and radiator;
    • Finally get to grips with paperwork corner, it will be super streamlined and decluttered!
    • Another quick fly through cupboards for second declutter. If I don't use it, it's going;
    • Might do oven, microwave, dishwasher, bin, fridge quick clean if I feel like it, although these are in good state really. At some point, I need to start on another room.
    Sorry for long post, got a bit carried away. Right off to get that washing on the line.
    Hope eveyone has a happy and productive day.
