  • Evening all

Airing cupboard cleared out - majority of stuff put in rubbish bag
Some more paper work sorted out - either filed away or to be shredded
Phone call made to car insurance
Letter typed up to a company about cancelling a membership & posted (50p for 2nd class post is rediculous)
Bag of rubbish (from airing cupboard clear out) & an old cat sleeping basket that is past it. Taken to dump to get rid of
Bedrooms, bathroom & upstairs landing hoovered
Load of washing done. Was put outside on washing line, but ended up having to take inside, as started to drizzle with rain.
More bird food/seed put into bird seeders
4 past it small cushions away
Few more items added onto Amazon for sale

But I ended up buying 3 medium/large-ish cushions from Homebase. Were down to £6.99 from £13.99 & had the colour I wanted. They did have some reduced down to between £1-£2, but not in the colours I wanted.

Sorting through items still left in the spare room, after decorating my daughter's room. She managed to part with:

    2 dolls
4 cuddly toys (plus 1 other that her brother has now claimed)
    Bookmark
    Money box
    Door hanger
    Mannequin for jewellery

Nice little bag full for charity there. Also a few little bits and pieces in the bin. Will try and have another go later in the week (or possibly even later this evening if her mood stays calm).

It's a kind of motivator if that makes sense. It helps to read what other people are doing and giving you the 'push' to commit to declutter. I have been doing bits over the weeks, but mine is more of a necessity because we are moving home this year - a 300 mile relocation and we cannot be moving crap with us because space in the removal van is going to be at a premium.

For others it's a case of clearing out stuff that has accumulated over the years to such an extent that it has taken over entire room(s) of their homes. Generally, the less you have the more space and the tidier and cleaner your home will be. So, if you get your goals written down whether at home or on here - or both - then you are halfway there to motivating yourself to a decluttered life!! Its up to you how you want to do it :)

Today, although I have cleaned the house through I have gone through my hosiery drawer and threw out some old tights and stockings that are past their best.

    Still to do:-
    Shed
Loft (books from loft dealt with so it is coming down)
Garden tidy up and sort through pots

    Done
    Garage
    Study (all paperwork etc)
    Bathroom
    Kitchen
    All drawers in bedrooms
Remainder of the house all cleared out and sorted.

I tend to use this thread as a motivator.

I've been decluttering on and off for three years, and getting rid of things that have accumulated for many years.

I've certainly been more focused this year, and as I feel I have support and encouragement from everybody on here, I'm not so 'wishy-washy' with my de-cluttering - less things go back in the cupboard now !

As I've been on the decluttering trail for a few years I didn't think I had so much in the way of lots of small things to get rid of, it's mostly bigger things. Therefore my target for the year is 365 things out of the door in 2013. (although I'm still finding small things to declutter:rotfl:)

I like to post a summary each weekend of my activities in the week.

If a person wants to put their weekly aims on here and then report back on how they did, that's fine.

The beauty of this thread is that we can all use it in our own way, to move towards our goals

hello, I popped in this thread last year and it definitely prompted me to get decluttering back then! I'm not very good with keeping up with the threads, but I'm very glad I just spotted this one again as it's made me think 'ooh, what could I do with chucking out?!' .....so thank you for at least prompting me again! :)

I have recently sold a good few things via the free listing weekends on the 'bay' of 'e', so I'm making a start at least! Thanks guys and keep up the great work! :)
  • Thanks for setting the scene for me. As I read your posts I think of more areas that need some light shed on them.
But i'm going to stick to my little targets for the weekend and report back on how I do.
    Thanks again

So I had to pop back to celebrate my latest decluttering successes:

Makeup bag thoroughly cleared out - decluttered old eyeshadow I've been scraping at for weeks and replaced with new one I bought ages ago. Also finally using up the tail ends of old face creams.

Cleared out a load of paperwork including info relating to the death of a relative that I'd been hanging on to. Felt sad getting rid of it but I will be glad not to keep accidentally coming across it.

And in the clearing out of paperwork found 2x£20 restaurant vouchers and a £10 debenhams gift card :) and a free entry voucher to a nearby spa! I also finally filled in my tax relief form (on the list for at least a year!) and my eye test claim form for work!

Also decluttered two kitchen implements never used, a pair of earrings with a stone missing, and several pens that I really don't like!

And I am promising myself a visit to the charity shop this weekend to actually get rid of some earlier decluttered stuff.

On top of this I'm sticking with my diet and with my spending plan :)

Good luck with the decluttering everyone, I do feel so much better for it!

Good morning all :hello: - today doesn't look quite as nice as the past two days - a little overcast - but still not raining/quite a bit warmer/no wind, so not too bad. At least we know that Spring is 'just around the corner' ..................

Big welcome to our 'newbies' and 'returning peeps' - hope that we can all continue to motivate each other ...............

No decluttering at all done yesterday, due to shift in the CS. PLUS I relented and came home with ONE item from there :o -for dgd2 NOT me. A Lavender Head Bag for £1.50 - great for when she visits her dad at the weekends :j! That will be decluttered to DD's later today .............

There won't be anything done today, either :(. I've got a meeting of local 'older people's forum' run by Age Concern. It's a group of around 300 over-55's who get together to discuss topics that affect 'older people' - Council Policies / NHS Services / Local Transport services. It's well attended with people from all areas of our Borough - and should be interesting .................

Then I need to pick up my repeat prescription. I've also had a 'scream for help' from my DD - her 'falsie' had broken loose and she woke up almost choking on it this morning - tooth NOT boobie :rotfl:. She's supposed to be going for a meal tonight with her OH and another couple to celebrate her birthday - now feels so embarassed that she doesn't want to go :(.

Oh well, looks like a very chaotic day ahead for me .......... - so nothing new there then ;).

In the meantime, my new bookshelves and metal storage unit are still sitting there - looking at me and making me feel guilty ........... :o:o - will have to get around to 'sorting them' over the weekend.

speak later - love Lilyplonk xx
