    hello all,

i've been lurking for a while & plucking up the courage to join in on this thread. i've recently moved home, i have been slowly decluttering over the years but unfortunately after a recent move have a paid storage room to tackle but before that i have a fair bit to shift on ebay at new place. i've recently lost my brother to cancer (he was 34) it was very sudden/aggressive so i'm trying to come to terms with this, after losing my father a few years ago & suffering a nervous breakdown i don't want to go down the same route again. motivation has always been a big problem for me & at this difficult time it could get worse - it kind of already has as my homes looking like a tip right now but it was my brothers funeral last week & i've been exhausted so i'm trying to cut myself some slack, i plan to get on it more asap. so i have come here to get some advice & support from fellow hoarders/declutterers in the hope this will help me reach my ultimate goal of being clutter free, i believe the decluttering will help my mental health some what & help me move forward in my life.

    onwards & upwards!

    best wishes,

    claire

(((hugs))) for Nil. .. Could you have a goal of throwing out/giving away/selling 1 item a day or 2 or 5 or whatever number you feel is achieveable to start with? Or sorting 1 drawer or cupboard a week. Starting small and working your way up is a good way to get into things.

Give yourself time to come to terms with your brothers passing be kind to yourself and take some time to look after you!

Well, I got the job! Am completely amazed. However, I did turn it down as it wasn't exactly what I thought it was. They've now offered me another position there, they left a message as I was away all day at my disabled son's review meeting..

That's bloomin' brilliant! Congratulations on getting the first job, well done on turning down something you knew to be wrong and a second congratulations on being offered another one. Fantastic news.

    hello all,

Life does throw grenades at us from time to time and it's always difficult to withstand the blast, nothing prepares us for the loss of siblings (or anyone else really). My only brother died five years ago and I still miss him madly so I am really sorry for your own loss.

You're correct, decluttering your living space does declutter your mental space too. Take it easy, don't make it a chore or a labour. I'm almost finished my decluttering - until the next time - and sometimes I just sat and read through papers for the final time and enjoyed the memory, at least mostly!

My old mattress is now out of the house and waiting for the bulk collection, along with the dismantled bed frame. My living room is almost free of the chaos and the sofa bed all folded up and usable again as a sofa. Mind you that will be going soon as it's a heavy metal framed futon which is difficult (for me) to adjust into the flat shape. It's L shaped and I have to lift the _ up a bit until the l catches and then it all slides down into a --- shape. :rotfl: Getting it back up from --- to L is also difficult for me now. And no-one comes to stay any more, my youth is fading further away each day. :o

Out tonight and to hell with the final bits of chaos.
  • I haven't done much decluttering recently... but I got some great news today! I've been offered the job for the interview I had last week!!! Wooo! :D So happy!! :D
Also, I just checked eBay and a couple of bras I was selling (I bought them on there originally for myself, but didn't like them), have sold for £8.50! I only paid 99p! :D

    hello all...claire

Hi Claire! Welcome to the thread! Don't worry, we'll all support you on here. It definitely helps you mentally to declutter and have a tidy, nice home. It feels like a weight is being lifted off your shoulders. I'm so sorry to hear about your brother and your dad :( Big hugs for you. But you'll pull through it. They're still there looking down on you. When you're decluttering try not to get too overwhelmed with emotion about letting go of things, and think in the way of decluttering things from your house is like decluttering the grief from yourself.
Oh, I just found this smilie and think it hilarious ... :EasterBun
