Decluttering 2013, the saga continues ...

Unlurking again to do a quick post, some triumphs, some annoying, and a question.
I rang the CS I usually take my stuff to last week, and arranged the day I'd go, and turned up with a car full, about 15 various bags boxes and carriers. So glad it's gone, already started the next load and hoping to call in Monday weather permitting.
On Saturday I threw out in the bin a small basket with a broken handle, and a 2012 diary after I checked it had nothing I needed. Bin men came yesterday, and about 2 hours later I found said basket and diary! DH had retrieved them, as he felt they could be reused in some way... He also brought home a toaster from a skip, because he thought it might work (it doesn't) and a used string mop, just right for cleaning the kitchen floor NOT, so now we have to get rid of stuff he's scavenged. Do you get the impression DH isn't quite as interested in decluttering as I am?
I just found a tin of dried milk unopened and dated 2011, and a tin of cocoa opened and dated 2008. Should I ditch them, or will they be any good? I'm inclining towards ditching for cocoa and perhaps also the milk. I've thrown away today a large tub of pickling spice which smelt musty, and some garam masala which I bought and never used.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Had a nice day sewing today. My friend arrived just after 9 and we made 10 bags between us before she went home at 12.45, and I've made another 4 this afternoon/evening. So that's used up a bit of fabric and sewing thread.
27-40 Fabric used up making morsbags.
She also took 8 of the bags we made to distribute to her friends, so they're out of the house too. The remaining ones will be stored neatly in a drawer with others until I can distribute them.
Nothing else to report....Keep Calm and Carry On Kondoing

I think I've still got a couple of cotton bud containers in the 'cupboard of doom', convinced I can use them for something, lol!He also brought home a toaster from a skip, because he thought it might work (it doesn't) and a used string mop, just right for cleaning the kitchen floor NOT, so now we have to get rid of stuff he's scavenged. My OH is a scavenger too, lol! In one of our sheds we have 2 electric heaters and an iron, which he picked up at the recycling centre last year, he's convinced they were put there by someone who'd tried selling them at a car boot sale, and couldn't be bothered to take them home again, but he's not got around to testing them yet, lol! Having said that, some of his scavenged items have come in useful over the years. For example, when we lived in our flat he found a kitchen bin in the communal bin cupboard, which we used for a few years, and now it is in my dad's kitchen, so about 30 years after someone threw it out, it is still going strong. Also he was given a couple of glass panel doors, by a friend who was getting new doors, and a few months later he found an identical one in a skip and brought it home to replace the third downstairs door. Of course the council may make us replace them with plain doors, if we ever move out, but hopefully we will be old and doddery by then and can claim we didn't change them, lol!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

This week I have been too busy to do much, as when I've not been working I've mostly been at my dad's. Monday morning I had to meet a social worker, who is investigating the way he was discharged from the hospital, unfortunately when I got to his flat he had gone out, and didn't come home while we were there, so she had to come back yesterday, as she needed to get his permission to speak to his neighbour and the woman whose house he went to. Luckily I was also meeting another social worker from the hospital, and the boss of the enablement team, to review my dad's care needs, so I had to be there anyway. Then after work today, I had to take him to the nurse for a check up, and then took him shopping, so didn't get home until 6.30!
OH and I did use up 2 tins of pineapple this week (I didn't tell him they were BB October 2010 until after we'd eaten both tins, lol, but they were very nice!), and we have just eaten a tub of cheese footballs that didn't get eaten at Christmas. Also took the used envelopes in to work.
Tomorrow I have a day off, and my plan is to have a total 'me' day! I'm not going out anywhere, and depending on how I feel in the morning, I will either be cleaning, tidying and decluttering, or I will snuggle under my blanket and catch up some tv programmes that I've recorded! I'm really hoping to have the energy for decluttering, as the house is a mess at the moment. Knowing my luck I'll get a phone call and have to go out for some reason, and if that happens I think I'll scream, lol!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

I am so pleased today, finally finished sorting ot my photo albums. I had 21 when I started and now I only have got 13 left. This has taken me 4 months to do. Next task is to sort through the negatives.

Sue14 - thanks for giving us an update on how your dad's doing - I'd been wondering how you and he were both getting on since his discharge from hospital. Sorry to hear that he 'scuppered' your meeting with the SW - parents eh
!
Good luck with re-arranging for another meeting - but make sure you keep 'at it' where the hospital discharge procedure is concerned.

Did not do any decluttering yesterday! First day off since the beginning of the year.
Spent 20 minutes in my daughter's bedroom this morning, whilst my husband took them to school. Decluttered:
Bin full of rubbish including broken watch, beads, rubbers, dish painted on with nail varnish.
Box full of papers - homework from years ago, so much just general rubbish that should have gone in the bin immediately.
Not sure if I will incur the wrath of a ten year old when she gets back from school, but her room is so bad it has to be tackled one way or another. Rehomed some books to the new bookcase.0 -

All the very best with the job search.I would be rubbish in an interview these days - but you never know my last interview was hideous but we had such a laugh - i clearly hadn't researched the position but they offered me the job anyway...because of the chemistry, they knew i would fit into the team...so you never know!
Well, I got the job! Am completely amazed. However, I did turn it down as it wasn't exactly what I thought it was. They've now offered me another position there, they left a message as I was away all day at my disabled son's review meeting. I will be ringing them later to find out more. Hopefully, it's something part time, as I am going to need some time at home during the week to organise my son's care once he leaves college, which looks like it's going to take some doing ...flyingmamma wrote: »Found out today going to hav baby on valentines day !!!
