3 binbags out yesterday. i did not get any of the kitchen stuff sorted I wanted to get through, I just can't bring myself to scrabble about in the cupboard :( I have 3 that need a ruthless clearout and I need OH to help me but I just can't face it.

I am going to aim for another 3 binbags of rubbish out today and sort the stuff to drop at DS1's which is going to be stored in the car and next time we go out it is being dropped round at his. I think 2 weeks of a bed frame in the hallway is more than enough! It has to go!

Any more and I may be over estimating myself.

  • Plan for today is to sort through medicines, which I keep on a shelf on my wardrobe. A few bits will be OOD, I'm sure, so can go back to the pharmacy when I'm next trudging past in the snow.

Oh. My. Goodness. so much stuff that is OOD - nearly a carrier bag full :o I seem to remember last time I sorted through, a couple of months ago, there was a lot of stuff that had a few months left before it went OOD. Will be going past the chemist on Friday so will pop it in. The box is nice and neat (and half empty!) now :rotfl:

Am off out plodding through the snow again in a little while, when I get back I hope to make a start on my 'other' magazine clippings file, because I think a lot of it can go.
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

  • Just wanted to thank you all for such an inspiring thread.

Have been reading daily since the New Year and you have helped me to get motivated. Hope to be moving house (again) this year and I am determined not to move anything I don't actual need - useful or beautiful items only :)

So far atleast 5 bags of rubbish, equal amount for the CS, and stuff I will hopefully get round to Ebaying in one organised bag. Past couple of years I have funded the kids new summer wardrobe every year by selling last years too small stuff so hoping to do the same again this year ;)

Having to be firm with myself about stuff that I have given an emotional attachment to but am getting better :o Will see if I can get a bit more done today....

No decluttering today, as a two hour hospital appointment turned into a five hour one ! I dropped someone off, than mooched about until they were ready for collection.

Went into Dunelm Mill and bought new towels for the downstairs toilet, and a matching pedestal mat.

Don't know if anyone else is finding the same thing, but as places become decluttered, I'm buying new bits and pieces to make it look more like a home than warehouse !
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

I know the feeling! I once went in for a scheduled blood test at 9am, and ended up being late for my shift which started at 1pm!
  • A bit late to get started on this, butid like to join in!

We've just moved into a new house, which has included getting stuff out of storage that we didn't have space for in our rented house - and now wondering why we kept a lot of it! Still lots of unpacking to do and boxes lying around. We're in serious need of storage - we need wardrobes and bookcases as the last house had these built in, but I don't just want to store everything away whether we should be keeping it or not.

While we were renting a smaller house with not that much stuff around, I enjoyed the comparative freedom, so am hoping to replicate that here.

I've turned a corner with books - I used to never get rid of books, justifying to myself that I do reread quite a few, which is true - but there are a lot that I will honestly never reread (and a few that I have not yet read and probably never will!). Ihave started to cull.

So I'm aiming for the target of either getting rid of or finding a proper permanent home for 10 things a day.

That's what I aim for too Dot Common, have managed more most days so far, once I get started I usually find more than 10. Definitely going to keep going until the end of January then will see how the house is looking.

    Today I decluttered:

12 toiletries (all unused, mostly free with magazine subscriptions, in CS bag)
4 make up (old bits, binned)

I'm working on sorting out my dressing table this week, plus any other places where make up lurks... Plenty to go at still!
  • Straight after posting, I have hit my 10 target for today - 4 pairs of my son's trousers with holes in the knee are in the recycling box, and another 8 of his t shirts that are too small have been put away as hand-me-downs for my second son.

The house is so disorganised, there are lots of easy targets - I've not been helped by the boys having successive bouts of chicken pox immediately after we moved in!

Whilst the work in the bedroom is going well - carcass of new wardrobes is up - I am up to my oxters in stuff in the living room. And now we have to sleep here too until after the new carpet is laid on Friday. The total guddle is very depressing. It makes my brain ache. If the wardrobe bloke can get back here tomorrow to finish the job I can at least put away all the clothes and so on.

Just a case of hanging on...I will now make up the bed, perhaps if I close my eyes I won't mind so much!

:j:j new wardrobes are in :j and I've spent a happy hour decluttering the living room of the piles of clothes into the new spaces. Then I changed them round, and then I put them back again! :rotfl: Still got some other stuff to go into the top boxes but will wait until I'm not alone as I don't fancy being on the step ladder (small one) with my dodgy knee but I can wait. I've even filled a CS bag from the clothes I had put aside to keep!

Can't tell you how happy I am to be clearing the living room out. There are a couple of pieces of furniture which can't go back until after the new carpet is fitted but I can survive. Have decided to not put the bed back until after the carpet fitting as I can't really be bothered and the bed is being disposed of anyway,

I hope that everyone else gets this feeling of freedom, space and happiness from their decluttering efforts. It's glorious!
