  • Hi all!
Well done everyone for all the amazing decluttering!!

Sue14 - wishing your dad a speedy recovery, and hugs to you

Major decluttering in the tattooed_lady house today!!

A humungous amount of paperwork (from the past 6 Years) sorted and in piles for shredding, keeping and recycling.

Two bin bags full of old/broken toys (not good enough for CS) put in bin.

A carrier bag of decent toys to go to CS.

All DS's toys sorted into relevant boxes (took forever)

All storage moved about to be in the best places for accessibilty.

Quite pleased with our efforts :j

  • Well, in spite of my earlier post, I did manage to do a bit of decluttering in between clearing the kitchen after dinner and my TV programme. I went through 2 of the kitchen drawers, emptied, washed, stuff rehomed/tidied/chucked, and all in 10 minutes!

    99. Cling film dispenser that is too small for my cling film
    100. Roll of greaseproof paper; I think I bought this in about 1997, a giant 50 metre roll of it. I don't do any baking any more and haven't used any for about a year, so I'll pass it on to my mum
    101. Set of old measuring spoons
    102. Plastic pot lid (lost the pot somewhere along the way)
    103. Pastry brush
    104. Spatula
    105. Plastic fork from a supermarket lunch box last summer
    106. Scoop from baby milk - youngest grandchild has been on cow's milk for over a year now!
    107. Lanyard and clip
108 Fabric used to make 4 morsbags

So I've not done bad today after all, and reached my 100 target:)
Onwards and upwards - aiming for 150 in January now.

  • Well I made a start yesterday. Emptied three drawers in the front room. Have one carrier bag of bits for bin, including a broken glass. Lots of old audio tapes, recorded from vinyl many years ago. Not sure how to get rid of them as I don't just want to put them in the bin. I think they might be recycled as plastic if I can get them to the tip.

I have collected all the other stuff such as candles and computer bits and wires into categories, but I know there is much more of each in other places, so I don't want to decide where to put them until I know how much I need to keep and how much space I will need. Have some brass ornaments and other bits for CS.

Unfortunately I woke up with a migraine this morning and lost about half of the day, so didn't get much more done.

I did find one of the missing items though.

I hope I can do a bit more each evening this week, but by the time I get home from work and prepare a meal I am usually too tired.

I'm coming back here after a long while not posting, but I have tried to keep up with the posts, which in itself takes me ages. Anyway, after my laptop ran out of juice earlier, I succumbed to watching mindless rubbish on TV(Traffic Cops) and there was a new Ikea advert on during the break. Oh how I wish I could get my stuff organised like those two in the advert. Take a look at it on the Ikea site, it will make you all green with envy!
I'd put the link on as well, but I can't figure out how to do it at the moment, sorry.
  • Hi all

Hope you are all keeping warm and safe in the snow!

I was working on Saturday and feel so tired after the extra long week. I did do some de-cluttering and tidying in the kitchen yesterday.

69 - 90 plates, bowls and glasses to charity shop
    91 expired batteries
92 bulbs for light fittings in old flat
    93 - 103 tins of food – expired
    104 – 110 – bottles of coke/lemonade – expired 2 or 3 yrs ago
111 to 113 – bottles of water – expired – for iron or car battery
114 out of date medicine (indigestion tablets, paracetamol etc)

6 shelves tidied in the kitchen – only 2 more to go in large area of cupboards then two small cupboards to do – next weekend!

It all looks very tidy now so I am really pleased. Some of the stuff has been in there since we moved over three years ago but I was still struggling with the "might there be a tiny chance I would possibly need it" syndrome.

Well done all - you are all doing so well. I want to get to the stage some of you are at where you are struggling to find things to declutter - not much chance of that for a while though :rotfl:

    Take care

 morning all - another fresh blanket of snow here today. Had been hoping it was 'on its way out', but no such luck :(.

sue14 - hope your dad is showing some good signs of improvement soon - this winter weather is depressing enough, without the poor guy sitting in hospital feeling isolated from everybody.

lobbyludd - best of luck with the 'eviction of your unwanted visitors' ;) - I became quite an expert on their lifecycles/habits back when my own brood were littlies. Now it's my DD who struggles with her family - courtesy of her two daughters who both have very long thick hair . I even keep a supply of lotion at my house, 'just in case' ............

Hope everybody has a positive decluttering day - already made sure that the recycling, household rubbish and food waste collections are up-to-date and outside awaiting pick-up.

Hopefully heading out for a new freezer later today - IF weather conditions allow for a journey to Manchester :(.

speak again later - keep warm and safe everybody - Lilyplonk xxx

lobyludd when mine were at junior school we used the lotion but then they got chicken pox and we couldnt until the scabs had all cleared and yet the lice came back. I went to the chemist and he said just comb them every night, dipping the nit comb in vinegar. It worked so well we never went back to the lotion.

    Sue14 wishing your dad better.

donnajt can also recommend this women's hour recipe, works in any size tin and totally foolproof:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/food/recipe19.shtml
Had it made for me once by woman who had never baked before, lost half of it changing tins, and used a quiche dish to bake it in but was still yummy!

Dundeedolls you may get rid of the socks ;). Although am confused about charity ragman - some charity shops have to pay to get rid of clothes waste, so please check with them first that they need rags.

I was going to quote some more people but have lost them!

Just checked out the ikea advert, thanks for the tip: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/campaigns/storage_ideas.html#newadWish it was as easy as just chucking my stuff in the air and it magically found a home! :rotfl:.

Regarding the Action folder mentioned, this is exactly the conclusion we have come to and I am going to buy a small plastic coloured wallet now. I have also written a to do list to go at the front and instructed OH that he can't add a single thing to the folder without listing the action on the to do list first.

Since my last post I have:
    * emptied the basket of doom completely
    * started washing the annoying things that stay in bottom of laundry bag for years, am going to give them away
    * went through my bags of clothing under the loft, got items out for next phase of project 333. Bagged up 4 bin liners worth (75 items) for charity and took them there on the weekend
    * been through crochet and knitting bags in the living room and consolidated them into one crochet bag (I haven't knitted for a couple of years now)

166-167. 2 bags worth of paper - recycling
168-172. 5 items of mail forwarded to old lodger
    173. one form completed and mailed back
    168. local health services book - read and recycled
    169. local paper read and recycled
    170. bum bag emptied of receipts/rubbish and put back in wardrobe
    171. 3 boots receipts put in handbag ready for getting points added to account in town today.
    172. Xmas card list typed up for next year and recycled
173-180. set of cookbooks to charity
181-182. 2 scarfs that have been in laundry bag for over 4 years washed and put in charity bag
183-4. thermals that OH finds itchy and have also been in laundry for 3 years - washed and charity.
185-259. unwanted clothes to charity shop (included 6 handbags, 10 scarves)
    260. manky lipgloss - bin
    261. 3 stained clothes items - recycling
    263-265. 4 odd knitting needles - recycling
    266. Craft bag - charity
    267. toy bunkbed found in the street and cleaned up - charity shop
268-273. Odd crochet stitch tests - recycling
274-280. brochures from craft area including 3 of the same whats on guides that have expired!
    281. swimming flippers, not used since bought 2 years ago - charity shop
    282-284. OH's car magazines - recycling
    285. DD top, now freshly laundered - cs.
286-287. ood vitamins - recycled plastic containers

Feels so good to be sorting this stuff, like I am clearing a blockage!
