Hows everyone doing with supermarket reductions?

I am hoping to get some chicken breasts this evening. Local mr t had an offer on them when we popped in (they were in a stand alone cool bin) and every single one was dated for today. Got to be some left :-)
Did well on Christmas eve but that was just luck. Got a 2kg boneless pork joint for 1/3 original price. Got three packs of stewing beef for £1.08 and a 1.8kg gammon reduced to 50p. Tried local mr M then too but think it was too early and the reductions were poor. Lots of them but not much off.
Some of you bag some amazing reductions!
I think it's awesome to finally have a thread where we can find all the good deals people got in one place. If you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -

Do they claim the money they loss from reductions back from the tax man. Or do they simply add on a few extra pennies to everything to make up for the reductions.
i.e. They have X number of loaves they need to sell at £1 each to make a good profit. But they know they will have to reduce the last few to 10p to get rid of them. So they set the price of the loaves at £1.20, and the extra 20p they get makes up for the money they loss from the reductions.
I don't pretend to know how supermarkets work, but I do know that there is nothing bought in this country that is not paid for by either the customer or the tax payer.
You may get to the till and pay 10p for a loaf that was on sale for £1 (or £1.20) yesterday, but you can bet your life that the supermarket has either already had the other 90p (£1.10) off you, or it's coming out of your taxes at some point this tax year.
I know with Sainsburys if we had a serious number of reductions of a certain product or range, we do get our money back - even more so if its a store wide problem. Remember all the TTD party food two years ago was refunded back to us as stores were given food with UB dates of 22/23 Dec - not much good if you wanted them for a BD buffet. Though at 10p each, I bought 8-10 different packs and had 1 or 2 of each for tea for a week.0 -
You all inspire me with your reductions! Very jealous. I make it my mission for 2013 to get reductions in my local area.
We live in a 'premium' area in South East London I'm sure that hampers my reduced findings. You go in to co-op and reductions are only 25%, I never see more. Haven't checked Sainburys but I begrudge paying to get the bus to check and finding no reductions hence wasting more money! We have a Sains local that has the tiniest section for reductions you've ever seen and they price things down by 25-33% once again never seen more than that.
Me and my daughter checked co-op the thursday before Christmas, not even hunting for offers just on the off chance something might catch my eye. Meat was all reduced ie was £1 now 75p, why? why? One day left on the use by date with only a 25% markdown. Man infront of me filled 2 baskets with large joints of pork and beef, packets of salmon but the prices on these were still only 25% off. I bought some fresh cream eclairs reduced marginally and a packet of cocktail sausages, both at the request of my 4 year old. She had been shopping with me for 4 hours, bless her!
Next year I hope to hit my 2 large Sainsburys a bit further out if I can manage the hills to get there. Daughter will be starting school full time so more time for hunting down bargains. We currently budget £80 a week for our food shop to cover 2 adult and a 4 year old but only around £30-40 of this is ingredients I need for meals, an extra £10 for juices and fruit. The rest is toiletries on offer, toilet roll and cleaning products etc. I can definitely bring this down, even further if I can find good reductions! The Year Of DreamsBig Love To All Comp Sharers

There used to be a thread the reduction hunt but couldent find one on 1st few pages so started this one.
Typically best time for reductions are xmas and bank holidays
sundays and evenings.
poicly seems to diffre from company to store.
reductions in new sainsburys local are rubbish.
larer sainsburys no better.
so this year im going to keep focusing on
co-op
spar
mr m
mr t express and metro as they nearby me.
Think 24hour ones trickier as would reduced very late.
waitrose if ever nearby one.
Gina sometimes more affluent areas have ood reductions reember seeing soem super deals in posh sainsburys amd waitrose xmas eve one year.
You would have less competition.
The amount people circling reductions in tesco metro yesterday .
Also morrisions last hour before close was manic, there were no reductions but cant help think people assumed there might be.
Think I should have gone xmas eve to mr m.
Need to get basket for my pushbike as thats my problem getting out at right time minus the kids. As I dont drive.
Tempted to try large waitrose as going over wales to see family later.
But its mostly about timing and luck.
sometimes you will be lucky other times nothing
its about being consistant and keep trying.
Even when go in spar and get 2bits wll thats 2bits
Yesterdays 2packs sausages and 2fresh soups -well thats 4meals its something.
Also rather than make special trips if in new area for whatever reason check out their local shops easier in cities as so many suberbs.
happy hunting everyone and good luck its new years eve hopefully some bargains to be found.pad by xmas2010 £14,636.65/£20,000::beer:

I just posted on another thread about New Years Eve reductions. Did very well tonight especially with bakery items. I'm going round to my Nans for a bit of party, so picked up lots of cakes and treats. My best bargains were a pack of 12 iced ring doughnuts for 35p from Mr M and a large cherry pie from Mr A for 5p.2015 wins :j Sekonda watch, Harry Potter hardback book,0

I went to Tesco's at 5pm tonight and got some lettuce and spring onions and some houmous and tzakziki reduced, so I was pleased with this.
However, I must tell you all about the cream....they reduced it to 75% off and people were stacking their trollies with it...one person had 48 of the large double cream pots that you can buy and a couple of women were actually pulling them out of each others hands!
What on earth can you do with that much cream that is out of date on 31/12?...and is it really worth fighting over?0 -
