I went to Tesco's at 5pm tonight and got some lettuce and spring onions and some houmous and tzakziki reduced, so I was pleased with this.

However, I must tell you all about the cream....they reduced it to 75% off and people were stacking their trollies with it...one person had 48 of the large double cream pots that you can buy and a couple of women were actually pulling them out of each others hands!

What on earth can you do with that much cream that is out of date on 31/12?...and is it really worth fighting over?

You can make butter, I always buy cream if it's cheap and make really nice butter as it's so expensive. People think it's really unusual when I tell them but it's sooo easy, you just whisk the cream (it must be double cream, single won't work) until it separates, then you press the buttery part together to get all the liquid out and wash it.
The liquid is buttermilk, which you can use in some cake recipes or feed to your cat. You then add salt or garlic or herbs or whatever to the butter if you want. I think you get about half butter and half buttermilk so it needs to be cheap enough taking that into account. HTH

  • As above, you can make butter from double cream.

Pour the cream into a suitable lidded and leak free container, Kilner Jar for example.

Shake vigorously, eventually the cream will separate into butter and butter milk. Transfer the butter part into smaller containers which can then be frozen. :money:

you can whip it and freeze it, make it into ice cream, make it into parfaits, make it into carbonara sauce, make it into cheesecake, make it into delice and plenty more other things. Maybe she worked in a restaurant/hotel ?

I/we used to go yellow sticker shopping almost evening at our local Tesco store, but we found we were buying stuff we wouldn't have normally bought, hence my Husband needing to start a diet shortly.

No more reduced sandwiches - just because they are cheap.

No more puddings - I don't eat sweet things anyway, but my OH does.

I will only get something if I can really make use of it - it's only a bargain if I needed it in the first place.

Some of you are soo lucky to find stuff for 10P etc, our local store doesn't reduce to that price.

I think the best thing I found in the past week was two fresh Tuna steaks reduced to £1.50, and I've never eaten fresh Tuna, but golly it was lovely.

Picked up 2 packs of fresh chicken breast from our local co-op yesterday. The ones that are supposed to be £8, half price to £4, got them for £2.

Noticed with our co-op they start their small reductions a day early (only a local on, newly opened).
