I just don't want a dry month, I want to do it for longer. I told my friends that I'm not going to the nightclubs on saturday and got the "Your boring" and "Your boyfriend is a bad influence". Ive had "You need to leave him, Theres better lads when we go out!!"

Now they're sounding like as seen on TV paralytic sl***, showing off their breasts, climbing onto drunken males, haven't got a clue who they are or where they've been, and wailing they've gone blind in one eye because their false lashes are hanging off.

It's not a good look. For either the males or the females.

I've also decided that as I did mess uni up a bit, I'd like to either go improve my degree or do another degree in the evenings. I really want to get my life on track.

I don't drink every night just heavy weekends, So there should be no danger.

Yes it can - but drinking alcohol one night a week, whilst being daft and over time can harm (as well as making accidents and attacks more likely), is unlikely to mean a physical addiction that needs the supervision of a doctor.

But if in doubt, anybody considering it, especially if they have felt unwell or had some symptoms when not drinking for a couple of days before, should see their GP.

Dont think much of your friends to be honest, would real friends support you in your choice? The world doesn't begin and end with alcohol and nightclubs, maybe you are just a bit more mature than your friends?

There is a lot of social pressure on people, and especially younger people, to drink to excess. I think it takes a strong person to swim against the tide, but drinking in moderation is much better for you, physically and mentally. Why should somebody become a social outcast just because they don't get drunk regularly.

Exactly that, it is social pressure! I've drunk on 4 occasions this year, because it just doesn't interest me anymore, I get terrible hangovers, and would also rather spend the money on other things. I bought my first home this year and love my holidays, if I was spending money on booze all the time I wouldn't be able to do either.

People who have issues with you giving up the booze, well it's their problem, not yours. Also, my life is a lot less complicated with no drama and I m a million times happier, if that's not a reason to cut back/give it up I don't know what is.

I was working in an environment where heavy drinking was the order of the day - and anyone who didn't drink would get an awful lot of stick. I really did not want to drink that much ....as much as anything if I do drink heavily, my mouth runs away with me ;)

So.....I opted to let me be known that I only drink gin & tonic - but for every g & t I would drink, I would have 2 or 3 plain tonics - no-one was much the wiser - I kept my own counsel and my job!!!
