12/31/2012 01:38:43PM Agent (John Davis): "To check, right-click the Computer icon on your desktop and select 'Properties' or go to 'Start' and right-click the word 'Computer' and then select 'Properties'. It should list if it is 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) in the window that opens."

12/31/2012 01:40:23PM Agent (John Davis): "Chances are if it does not explicitly say 64 bit then it would be 32 bit."

12/31/2012 01:40:47PM ampersand: "Yippee - found a 64 buried by poking through all sorts of other headings. Will this do?"
12/31/2012 01:41:03PM Agent (John Davis): "So is it 32 or 64 bit ?"
12/31/2012 01:41:30PM ampersand: "Tried to take a screen shot as it wouldn't copy for pasting, but no joy there either"
    12/31/2012 01:41:40PM ampersand: "Must be 64"
12/31/2012 01:42:02PM Agent (John Davis): "If that is the case then please install this driver - http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDetails.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=nKGrQtfEm6kIrU002Ff8e8DH1MkpXLu3DUEA4KlSqscz+zkU003D&id=25051"

If you get this file on to your PC

    http://esupport.epson-europe.com/FileDetails.aspx?lng=en-GB&data=nKGrQtfEm6nLBtwC0ZUSPWm91tkH8tdf&id=18706

Unzip the folder then open it, look for EE291__1.ICM

Left click it to highlight it

At the top of the folder, click edit, click copy

Go to the Epson folder on HDD [C:]

At the top of the folder click edit, click paste

That should place EE291__1.ICM where it is required

Doing it this way is the same as typing the pathway etc

During the install, where it says type the pathway, is there an option to cancel that, or does clicking cancel, cancel the install? If it wants to cancel the install, copy the file then.

If there is an option to cancel when it looks for EE291__1.ICM select that and let it complete the install, then copy it to the Epson folder.

I would have thought Epson would have a technician to install it for you by remote, may be worth asking to speak with a supervisor.

santer, again how patient and kind you are!

Down to red section, have done this half a dozen times now[thanked you in some excitement, New Year's Eve post], with uninstalls preceding, bien sûr.
You are spot on with your next para. - just says no such file exists.
When I cancel, it cancels the Install process.
Sth noticed: after re-start post reinstall - yes, yes, same 'new hardware detected', plus 'something interrupted the installation process' speech ballons at lower r/h cnr, BUT the little printer ikon has changed - looks more boxy and shows tiny red sth in paper slot. but it is still correctly named RX425. This says to me that things HAVE been installed, but 'I still can't do any printing, not even a test page, or nozzle check etc.

If the file copies to the Epson folder on HDD [C:] it should run the install

You can ring Epson Techs on 01952 670066 might be easier to get them to guide you through on the phone

  • Try taking all of the cartridges out, unplug the machine at the wall for 30 mins to reset it. Then put the cartridges back in and try again. If this does not work then I would recommend buying refillable cartridges. Best from Refill Man website.

That little l/r ikon has disappeared now; no printer symbol at all.

Dear helpers, fortunately I have long hair - enough to tear out for all of us...

Out of nowhere, up has just popped a 'complete installation' wizard box.

Options were back/finish/start over. I took The Middle Way...suddenly I have RX425 showing as installed under Faxes and Printers, asking me to print a test page and there are TWO of those more modern little printer ikons now along the bottom line.

I have turned printer off, will leave it 30 mins or so, then try to print what is shown as '1 document waiting.' On the preferences inset, the options are as before, but the graphics have had a bit of a tart-up.

...and now the earlier version has appeared alongside the new two. It faces right. The new printer symbols face left.

What on earth is going on now?

If you right click them in devices and printers, do any of them open a menu with options to set preferences?

If so, click printer properties, then print test page.
