    the letter says.
I was very concerned to hear that you found worms in the wedges you bought.I can imagine how distressing and unpleasant this must have been for you,and i'm sorry.
This certainly isn't the condition we want any of our products to arrive in.
We use strict quality control systems in all our food factories to prevent this kind of thing happening. All windows and doors are screened off,and we use electronic insect killing units in all our production areas.I'm sorry that, for whatever reason, something got through this time.

your telling me,i will not be lazy and make my own next time!!

Easy way to make em, get a 3 pound pack of spuds, wash them in water and quarter them. Put some water in the pot and bring to the boil, add quartered spuds and bring back to the boil.

Drain in a colander. Add grated cheese, tomatoes (well chopped) and mix them up. Add garlic or herbs, pepper to taste.

Put oven on 200C. Place spuds on an oiled tray.

Delicious with baked beans and ham! Oh and for the price of one meal wedgies, you can have baked potatoes tomorrow!

£10? And no SINCERE apology? Disgusting. Must say that since I've been reading this thread I've not been able to bring myself to shop at ASDA, personal choice, down to own experiences - food there may be cheap but IMO not worth the cheap prices - everytime I've bought tomatoes there's at least two mouldy ones in the pack, and some cheese ... went totally green a month before it's sell by date (I kept it to watch out of interest when the first green splodges appeared). ASDA's half a mile away, prefer to drive 2 - 5 miles to next big store. Mind you, I have friends that work/have worked in other stores too and I've heard tales......

Cooking from scratch is the way to go. Wishing you luck jimsmum

Hi, I just wondered if there were any developments here. Just to put it into perspective - I bought a bag of frozen Asda peas for £1 and found a frozen caterpillar inside - result, £5 gift voucher. I bought a prawn sandwich from M&S which had a shell in it which cut my lip - £20 in vouchers.

Personally I think maggots/worms in wedges is 10x worse and it's a total disgrace that you were offered £10. If you haven't heard any further - I work across the road from Asda House (head office) in Leeds and am happy to pop in a letter by hand for you so you KNOW it has been delivered.

here is the letter i received today:

Thank you for contacting me.I was sorry to hear that you were unhappy with my colleagues earlier letter.
As mentioned in my collegues previous letter, we will be taking this matter up with the supplier responsible and every effort will be made to try to ensure that there is no repeat of the problem. We will be keeping a very close eye on them over the next couple of weeks and will bear your complaint in mind when the time comes to renew our contract with them.
It is very difficult to make up for your trouble and distress with money or a gift card and certainly didn't mean to cause any offence with the gift card that my colleague originally sent to you.As potatoes are a natural product, sometimes bugs can remain in the product, I know that this is not ideal, but on this occasion we cannot pusue the matter further. I know that this may not be the answer you were wanting to hear, but i hope I have explained myself fully.

If I can help with anything else in the future, please do get back to me.

    Yours sincerely

Disgraceful! I'd write back with something along the lines of:

In reponse to your letter, I am still extremely unhappy not only with the fact that there were worms in my meal, but the way in which my complaint has been handled.

I do not accept that 'ss potatoes are a natural product, sometimes bugs can remain in the product'. This was not a bag of potatoes I purchased, it was a PREPARED meal, produced in a factory which (I would like to assume) meets UK health & safety legislation. The worms weren't even IN the potatoes, they were seperate in the box! I am sure that 'this is not ideal' - would the UK's consumers as a whole be happy with the notion that you consider WORMS in a supposedly hygenically prepared meal acceptable?

As for making up for my trouble and distress with money or a gift card; thankyou for first awknowledging the trouble and distress myself and my young child (who is understandably traumatised) have suffered. In fact, the £10 offered barely covered the cost of the item, my phone calls, letters and time, not to mention the emotional distress. I would think that a more substantial compensation would be in order - I cannot think of much worse that can happen regarding your food.

I appreciate that you will be keeping a close eye on all the closed boxes of pre-prepared potato wedges, and I sincerely hope no other customers have a similar gruesome discovery in any of your foodstuffs.

Please escalate my complaint to your manager and advise him that I do not consider the matter closed. I will be pursuing this until I feel adequate action has been taken.

    Kind Regards

Don't let them wriggle off the hook that easily - £10 is nothing to them, I see how huge their Chistmas parties are at Asda House!!!
