  • I'll have to appreciate our Council service more!

We still have weekly black bag collection and can leave out as many as we like, same with pink bags for recycling material - splitting off glass into separate container. Garden/food waste in green wheelies fortnightly. Can phone for free collection of large items (beds, sofa's, fridges etc) for disposal.

Xmas/New Year holiday collections are just shuffled about by a day or two. So glad we don't have the 'service' some of you have to tolerate.
  • mine have been collected today and we have weekly so will be collected next monday as well. though i do find my glass and recycling only gets collected after i complain to the council then it collected for 3-4 weeks then i have to complain again.

With ours, if there was a bank holiday, your collection day would be put back 1 day accordingly. So if your bin was due to be emptied on Wednesday, and there was a bank holiday on the Monday, then everyone went back a day so the bin would be collected on Thursday. And would say on Thursday until there was another bank holiday.

But the council decided that people were too stupid to cope with this, and brought in these new "simplified" rules which everyone could understand.

So now if your collection day is Monday, when the bulk of the bank holidays are, you will miss out and have to wait another two weeks for the bin to be emptied. But according to the council, this is better than the old system.

Ours is due to be collected tomorrow, xmas day, but the council always arranges for 'missed' collections to take place on the next working day - which will of course be Thursday 27th :D

Last year they did that, and if your bin day fell on xmas day/new years day then you were out of luck.

This year they have just moved the xmas week collections on by 2 days (missing 25th and 26th) collecting Sat & Sun, and the week after by one (missing 1st)

My bin collection day is Tuesday and I've just checked the council website to see when the next collection will be and it's Boxing Day. Good job too seeing as one of my neighbours has filled my bin up with their rubbish

Our bin collections by the sound of it must be unusually good.

IIRC for about 5-10 years (since wheelie bins?) they've basically adjusted the dates so that normally at most the collections are out by 2-3 days of their normal times.
This year they pushed one bin collection forward (from the Monday to Saturday) and the other back a day from memory, effectively meaning that most people are only out by a day or so on their collections.
  • We have fortnightly collection. Ours is done on Wednesdays.......
Nothing on our councils website about revised collections so at 09.55 this morning I thought .....maybe I should put them out.....I was 1/2 way down my drive when I noticed next doors bins out......and the bin lorry approaching my gate! My lovely bin man came up the drive to meet me....and brought the empty bin back up to meet me taking my second full bin down :T. I must say I was really surprised that they were working Boxing Day.

They usually come after midday on Wednesday so them turning up before 10 was unusual.........and apart from us and our neighbours I couldn't see anyone else's bins out......so I think a lot of people were caught out and will have to wait another 2 weeks. I'm really glad we got ours in. Cos they were rammed full so no way we could have lasted another 2 weeks.

  • My grey bin (non-recycle stuff) was collected on 19th Dec and won't be collected again til 9th Jan.

If I have to work on Bank Holidays (along with thousands upon thousands of us) then the bin collectors should too. In my opinion.
