So it's fine to make the refuse collectors work over the holiday?0

a. Yes ( are they different from shop workers and transport workers for example?)
b. Does the holiday really last this long?
Most local authorites suspend collections on Xmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day but work the rest of the time.0 -
Had mine done on 19th next time will be 28th and 4th normally would be 26th then 2nd. I think thats good no complaints about ours we just have to put dustbin out night before as they collect from 6am0

You're just unlucky that your bin collection day is Tuesday which is Xmas day and New Year's Day. On the other days they will just be doing there normal round.
If you're that bothered then go to the local tip yourselfThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
My bin day is Tuesday as well.
Usually, it's okay, but this time around the dates fall on a Tuesday. Still, after all the Good Fridays and Bank Holiday Mondays where other areas don't get any collections, it had to happen. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -

Agree with that, would just have expected a bit more thought from the council (oh silly me, that's common sense isn't it :rotfl::rotfl: )0 -
I wonder if they will allow black sacks to be collected as well to cover the extra time between collections.
My bin collection is normally a Tuesday, next week it's Thursday & the week after is Wednesday, the council is paying overtime for the bin men to work at weekends.0 -
Each bank holiday my local council (Huntingdon) simply re-arrange the collection days and give out a leaflet with the revised dates.
This year collections originally scheduled on Christmas Day have been moved to Thursday 27th, and most others simply moved by 2 days.
I foolishly assumed most other councils also did this!0 -
We also had our bins collected this Tuesday, and recycling bins will be collected this Thursday - West Lancs.0
