Ohh everyones sounds lovely today! Olliebeak I will buy that shin beef, Mudgekin your stovies sounds perfect for today and ShelBell, nice one on the chorizo! I nicked a recipe off a M&S packet for a chorizo based pasta dish.

What are happy chicken fillets LOL??

In mine (from bottom up) carrots, leeks, celery, onion & garlic, cider & stock, herbs, apple sauce, pork steaks and mushrooms. Will serve with sweet potato mash.

Wow! that sounds amazing - how was it? Did you mix the apple sauce in?

    Thanks :)

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone buys there meat for stews, shins, neck etc from their local farm shop? I always avoided mine but i cant belive how cheap they are in comparison to the supermarkets. The price per pack is roughly the same but you get at least half again and the meat is much nicer. They also sell packs of dried pulses, beans and barley etc really cheap. Also free range eggs are 70p less than the supermarkets. Has anyone else found this?

Why have you always avoided them? I always used to buy everything from well known supermarkets too, but then I went out to train farmers on their computers (long story), and through that realised that the quality is unbeatable. I buy all our meat from our local butcher and although occassionally it works out more expensive the quality is far superior, and because it is so good it seems to go further (for beef stews etc.)

P.S I love my slow cooker - even the worst cooks can produce something absolutely delicious :rotfl:
  • lbt - no I didn't mix the sauce in, I just dropped a few teaspoons of it on top of the veg and stock. It mixed itself in and the dish was gorge. My OH came home and said he didn't feel like any tea and disappeared upstairs. When I dished up he said go on put a little out for him and then promptly refilled his plate with twice as much seconds! :)

  • That sounds simple but lovely! Mines not on today as I don't want to overdo it and put the family off. But I love the type of meals that come out of the slow cooker - I prefer them in fact. And I could happily eat rice three times a week.

Won't be able to use mine til Saturday now as I'm out tomorrow night on a Christmas meal.

Mine smells great now, but OH not due home for another couple of hours unfortunately, so I'll have to wait.

I have onions, carrots, swede, chicken, a little chicken stock and some white wine in mine at the moment. Hope it tastes as good as it smells!

The wonderful beanburger recipe - the creator of which I can't remember - I put in a bowl and 'steamed' in the slow cooker. I cooked potatoes around it and served it with steamed cabbage and tomato sauce by vegankris.

    Very delish!

Well I bought a nice cut of top rump yesterday from the Kew Garden butchers. They have really lovely meat in there and I prefer to support small businesses rather than mega corporations such as large supermarkets.

Anyway. Just now I have had a good clear out in all my kitchen cupboards and fridge, and retrieved 3 good sized carrots (one beginning to go mouldy :o so that bit was cut off) and 1 very large onion.

These will be chopped up tonight and put into my sc with a tablespoon of marmite, a generous rosemary sprig, a bay leaf, salt (not too much for me), extra virgin olive oil, one garlic clove, diced beef and a large glass of water.

To slow cook overnight for 8 hours, and tomorrow at lunchtime I'll have a hearty little stew. :D
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • I just love that signature!! :)
