Okay it has to be said... if anyone tells you to stick cocoa in your chilli, run away. It's not nice, not one bit. We ate a portion each - bless my family they tried. But the leftovers went in the bin not the freezer.

    Better luck tomorrow!
I'm glad you've said that I've seen it in a number of recipes... I do add a bit of sugar to my chilli's but chocolate seemed like a bit much!!

Thought I'd pop down the recipe for my pumpkin soup whilst I'm here

Small Pumpkin cuts up into cubes
    2 large onions cubed
    1 litre chicken stock
1/2 bunch of Rosemary (just leaves)
    3 tablespoons honey

Put in slow cooker on high for 4 hours.. could be in there on low all day.

Mush all together with hand blender and either eat as it is or to make a bit more tasty add some cream and parmesan.

If freezing don't add cream/cheese you can add this when you defrost!!

Made enough for EIGHT servings  and not expensive to make!

Now I'm going to find out how to roast up these pumpkin seeds I've saved to make a tasty treat for my OH :j

When I make a stew in the SC, I use shin beef - in ASDA it's called 'Stewing Steak'. There is quite a bit of connective tissue in it, but all that melts down during cooking and it's just so tasty when cooked for a long time. Works well in the Pressure Cooker too.

I keep looking for lamb neck ends (scrag ends) - but can't find them anywhere these days. We haven't got a proper butcher around here - may need to go into Prescot to have a look there. They're really delicious in stews .

How much did you put in?

  • Well the internet hints all said a tablespoon so I put in three teaspoons as its equivalent and I happened to grab a teaspoon.

It was dark and bitter and vile. My chillis are usually red and tomatoey and that's how they'll be from now on LOL!

a tbsp sounds an awful lot. When I do chilli I add a single square of dark chocolate, which would equate to about 1/2 tspoon of cocoa

In my slow cooker today is a pack of happy chicken mini fillets, a tin of chopped tomatoes and a splash of worc sauce.

Need inspiration to make it a bit more exciting, but not spicy.

Inspiration was lurking in the back of my fridge in the form of a chorizo sausage :)

Fried it off to crisp it up (and get rid of some of the oils) and bunged it in the pot :j

  • I don't tend to experiment too much in the kitchen and generaly stick to what i know or recipes but i had a moment of madness and have bunged something in the slow cooker for tonight. Just wondered whether i ought to make any changes to it while is still can!!!

We were supposed to be having lamb steaks done in there which i have done before and were lovely but instead i have cubed the lamb and put it in with some chunky veg, some passata, topped up with stock (only had beef cubes)a handful of pearl barley to thicken, some fresh mint and a couple of sprigs of rosemary. Was going to serve with mash and maybe dumplings or a cobbler type thing.

    What do ya reckon?? :o
  • Sounds lovely, I'd possibly add a bit of garlic but I don't think any alteration is necessary!
