Veggy soup in mine today - Hopefully it will cure this rotten cold / flu that I've got.

Some carrots, leeks, potatoes, onion, swede and some chicken and veg stock. Also some lentils, a boquet garni and some other herbs etc. Might pop in some other bottom of the fridge veg aswell.

Spicey could you please tell me how to do this please? It is something I have never tried but would love to and being able to put it in the SC would be even easier/better :)
Sorry only just checked this thread, after hectic few days! My chicken chasseur is as follows.
    Chicken cut into chunks
    1 chopped onion
    1 tin chopped toms
    2 tbspn tom puree
    1 glass wine white
chicken stock (cube will do mixed with water)
mushrooms as many as you like
    salt n pepper
    mixed herbs

If you like Garlic, which I dont, then add a clove, but you will need to fry it off with the onions first. Other wise I just throw the lot in the SC on medium for 6-8 hours, check after 6 and turn to low if needs be.
    Hope that helps.
Today its an easy chicken casserole with dumplings.:D

    Hello All

I noticed that a Gammon Joint is on offer in Somerfield (£4). How would you cook it in a slow cooker, and would you then roast it in the oven? After an evening meal and a couple of days worth of sandwiches, I would also like to make some soup. Any ideas/recipes?

  • I did one in slow cooker with half a can of scrumpy and a bay leaf. Was mouthwatering. Just sliced it up when I got in from work and had it with potatoes and veg.

  • So nice to find people who like slow cooking!! I'm addicted - it's so brilliant had it for the past 3 years (I'm 26) and it's a life saver!!

I have chicken bones etc in it today from last night making some stock and then I'm going to use some left over Pumpkin and Rosemary that I've got to make a pumpkin soup tonight.... will freeze some of it (without the cream in it ;)) and have some of it tonight with some cream stirred in and cheese melted on top yummy... and all from leftovers!! Looking forward to keeping up with this thread...!!

  • Hi Guys - any tips for cheapest meat? where to get it from? i.e. better from butchers than supermarkets?

I understand chicken legs can be cheaper, etc.. but on the beef I noticed my stewing beef for quite a small amount was stil £3.50 the other day and would only do 2-3 meals???

Thanks!! (I will have more of a nose round this thread when I'm at home!!)

I find it cheaper to get from the supermarkets... I always have a look at their reduced section and pick up something to freeze if it's cheap. Else one of them normally has a BOGOF offer on chicken legs!

I guess the good thing about slow cooking is the quality of meat doesn't have to be good :p

  • Okay it has to be said... if anyone tells you to stick cocoa in your chilli, run away. It's not nice, not one bit. We ate a portion each - bless my family they tried. But the leftovers went in the bin not the freezer.

    Better luck tomorrow!
