Hi everyone,
I havent posted on here before but really want to start using my slow cooker properly
Today I bought lamb ribs and some neck of lamb all reduced in the Supermarket....how would you all cook this??
By the way I have the largest size slow cooker as feeding a family of 8
Also OH really wants me to cook some oxtail in it next so how would I go about that???
Sorry for being such a novice but never sure how much stock to add...how long to cook for ....or what else to add ...and cant really afford to make lots of mistakes..
Thanks in advance x
Hello mummyof5. :hello:
I have a 6.5 litre cookworks model, just for four of us. I like this size as I like to make enough for a few days.
Neck of lamb is perfecr for Irish Stew in the Slow Cooker. The meat comes out really melty, and it is just really nice.
For the Oxtail, you could make some Oxtail Soup or stew. I've seen a lovely recipe for Jamaican Oxtail with Broad Beans here which is making my mouth water just looking at it.
I've seen a lovely recipe for Lamb ribs with rosemary bbq sauce, here.
There's also the complete slow cooker collection on this forum, which has loads of recipes.0 -
Beef goulash here today ... a kilo of the cheapest beef the butcher had when I picked up my Christmas meat, some onions, olive oil, flour and paprika (lots of paprika!). That lot is sitting in the sc on high for an hour or so, then I'll add some tinned tomatoes, a few diced potatoes & some stock or water (not sure if I have any veg stock at the moment). It will be delicious, and I will freeze half, and make two or three meals out of the other half.
Goulash today - probably with mash, maybe just with bread.
Goulash soup tomorrow - more of the liquid, less of the 'bits' - maybe some dumplings.
Goulash pancakes tomorrow - the last bits & pieces, rolled up in pancakes, rest of sauce poured over, & grated cheese, then bake in oven for half an hour.0 -
Hiya..I use my slow cooker for stews etc, but I really want to know if I can put some potatoes in it in the morning for them to boil during the day while I'm at work-or do they go all mooshy? Sorry if it sounds I'm a bit thick. We both work full time, and by the time I peel, boil tatoes etc, i'm too hungry to enjoy it-if that makes sense.Ruaridh Armstrong-missing since 05/11/11. Come home old boy-we miss you x

I will respect your opinions, even if I don't agree with them0 -
Potatoes will be fine. I've never had them go mushy. I just use ordinary white ones.0

Some spuds do go mushy - I bought a cheap bag a few weeks ago and can't boil them without their skins, or they just fall to bits. I don't know if they are specifically meant for crisp manufacturers.0

Made a lamb casserole before work. Pretty simple one as we didn;t have much veg in. Just lamb, onion, potatoes, green beans, garlic and rosemary and stock. Smells gorgeous, can't wait to eat it
