Tomorrow I'm cooking spaghetti bolognese (well, not the spaghetti, just the bolognese bit) and as I have to be at work early I've prepared it now, so I just have to shove it on before I leave

  • Hi guys,

I am converted by the slow cooker, only used it once so far, but it was lovely, so I am going to give the 4p Tesco curry sauce a go.

I was thinking a couple of jars of this, some tin tomatoes, onions, baby sweetcorn, mange tout, chicken and maybe cauliflour. Do you think that would be ok to leave in all day?

    Open to suggestions.

Also if I want to do a vegi sausage casserole, what would your best advice be on the sausages, to brown or not to brown?

(The whole process still makes me a bit nervous!)

Nothing to be scared of. That sounds fine what you are using today. Just put it all straight in the SC. Vegetables at the bottom, meat, then sauce on top, and you will be fine. :D

I would brown the sausages for a casserole, purely because they look better. (Don't bother browning the chicken though).
  • I looked at my first creation with a beady eye of suspicion, but it tasted lovely.

(I just threw in chicken thighs, chicken drumsticks and two jars or chickpea and spinach sauce Then added some vegtables later.)

I am now scouring the Tesco website for as many cheap things as I can find to put in there.

I think I wll make this thread one of my new daily reads! Yummy. You guys seems to have all the slow cooker knowledge.

Came home from work to find my house smelt lovely :j My dad wouldn't admit to poking at it all day, but I bet he probably did. My spaghetti bolognese was lovely, and my house didn't blow up :)

After following this thread for aaages, bought the Asda £7 slow cooker yesterday :j
In it since last night: sort of chicken curry because I couldn't wait until I got to a recipe :D: chicken drumsticks, two tablespoons pathak's paste, tin chopped tomatoes, big handful each of chopped onions, mushrooms, spinach and mixed veg from the freezer. Will hopefully serve with rice for lunch. Thanks for all the ideas and inspiration :T

    Hi :)

Can you cook a whole chicken in your slow cooker?

How would I go about it?

    Ta for any advice

I put a sliced onion & a couple of cloves of garlic in the bottom then just enough water to cover the bottom of the cooker & the chook on top - I don't bother browning.

The onion & garlic & chicken juices make a wonderful tasty gravy.
