Hmmm not sure my first try has been a success. I cooked a rice pudding. I followed the recipe which was 100g each of pudding rice and sugar, a litre of milk and 25g of butter. Had it on medium for 5 hrs and it was still very liquid. Is that right?

I am picking up a slow cooker which is reserved in Argos for me today. Wanted one with a timer but they were all too expensive so getting a normal one and getting a plug timer instead :D (kiwi is a genius)

I have two pork chops that we were going to have for dinner tonight but I want to put them in my new slow cooker tomorrow morning now for dinner when I get home. What should I get to put in with them? Will just need to be a take away or something tonight! :rotfl:

You could try herbs and tinned tomatoes or cider. Apple juice?

Seen your suggestion too late kidcat :(

I have cubed the pork and added cubed potato, mushrooms, onion and garlic. Then some curry powder, water and a touch of chilli powder. All sat in the slow cooker, will switch it on tomorrow morning, hope everything is okay to sit in there until then

I really hope it doesn't go wrong! I'd love to come home to a yummy curry tomorrow after work :D

The exact same thing happened to my rice pudding the first (and second :o ) time I tried it. Now I put it on high for about 5 hours and give it a good stir every 90 minutes ish. I know your not meant to lift the lid but it's the only way I've managed to make a decent rice pudding... and it was yummy :p hope that helps.

Nothing in mine today, maybe chilli tomorrow :D

Sounds yummy. Its the smell you notice most. I love coming home to the smell of gorgeous food. I have a gorgeous beef boeurginon(SP) recipe that I cook for dinner parties etc and the smell is like heaven, my kids think I am mad cos I stand around just sniffing the SC. Tastes alright too!

And you have to try the ribs, cooked them last week as a starter for some friends, and the meat was so tender it fell off the bone and melted in your mouth.

Do you have to put liquid into a slow cooker? I bought one today that said the pot must always have liquid in it, yet I found some recipes that didn't really seem to have much liquid. What does everyone do?

Some recipes, like my chilli, seem to be rather 'stiff' when they are cold. As it heats up, though, the fat in the meat melts and the juice comes out of the vegetables, so it makes its own liquid. I would follow the recipe

    Good luck

  • Turkey stew in mine for tonight.

Diced turkey thighs in Tesco £2 for a large box of fresh ones. Chucked them in at 6.30 this morning with a tin of vegi soup, tin of chicken soup tim of cheep baked beans some diced potatoes and carrots and some gravy granuels.

So tea should be simple tonight.

I am looking forward to it.
