Omnasia- Obviously I don't know how heavy the rock is- or the door for that matter, but if it isn't level around the door this could leave the door with a tendancy to swing closed. If the door's been hung badly too.

Old buildings develop creaks and noises, draughts and bad levels when the foundations move a bit. If wiring isn't perfect, and has been slightly worn or damaged, it can emit a high-pitched hum which leaves animals unsettled- so they won't go near it.

It's the same with old cars- I've been able to tell my husband something's about to go on our cars a couple of times for two reasons- since I'm partially blind, my hearing seems better than others, and my total familiarity with the car means I know when it doesn't sound the way it usually does. He's never been able to pick up on it, but the hum from the failing fuel pump was extremely irritating to me!

Water pipes can bang, particularly if there's warm water going through a cold pipe, vice versa, or a slight airlock. The voices your builder heard- possibly someone parked nearby, working in a field, or just a freaky show of sound travelling in a calm day?

I'm not trying to denigrate your posts- I'm extremely interested in it! I'm just trying to give plausible reasons. Very interested in if your visitors experience anything.

My guess is they will at least pick up a hint of reticence from you about the room even if you say nothing.... But if they experience anything past that....

I think the OP has visitors staying, so probably hasn't had much time for posting.

However, I'd be interested to hear if things have calmed down now.

Hi everyone, sorry for my absence but yes we have the Aussies over. They have actually gone to London for a few days before meeting up with us again.

I really did my best with the room, heated it up and put some nice homely touches so it actually looks totally different from the way it was before. The carpet really makes a difference so that it doesn't echo so much. The guests slept fairly well but did say they had been woken a couple of times by various noises. I told them it was just the creaking of an old house combined with 'country' noises.

Unfortunately the vicar called unannounced and so I pretty much had to tell them what had been going on. Now they are really keen to 'investigate'. When they get back, they are going to set up a camera. They did say they had felt a bit odd in there but didn't want to upset us by saying anything.

I had the door taken off and re-hung because we just couldn't keep it either shut or open. It now stays shut but the latch rattles as if someone is trying to open it. (ie up and down) the Aussies said they have seen it but I have only heard it.

I don't want this room to become a 'no go' area of the house and I feel much better about things now. I had worked myself up into a frenzy when I first posted and hadn't realised how common these things are.

My husband has heard through a friend of a friend (not ideal I know) that there was a murder and suicide here but we haven't got the details yet. I'm not sure what that means.

I will update again. Our friends want to do a seance but I think I will say no to that, I mean they can go back to Oz but we still have to live here and I don't feel comfortable about it. The camera might be interesting and show an animal or something. Anyway, I'll be back with the results soon and as always thank you to everyone.

    Omnasia, thanks for updating.

Funny you should mention a Seance, I was going to reply earlier and say that maybe you were busy having a Seance with 'all' your visitors. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
I live in an old and somewhat remote house. Doors open and close here too. It's not that ususual, they have in many old homes I lived in. Often someone walking on the opther side of the houses enough 'wobble' to jump a door open.

As for noise, it's inscribe the noises houses can make. Having not had central heating for a couple of years I had forgotton how noisy it can be.
I also, in summer, often hear my neighbours to the south, half a mile away. They are not loud, it's just the breeze and the lie of the land, that gives parts of conversations.

Thanks for the update. If it was me I'd want to try some EVP work but the results might scare you (or more likely you'd get nowt at all!)
