I know mum doesn't seem fussed, but how would she feel if she saw on the news the same fella/car had knocked a child down and killed them due to 'tiredness' as it wasn't nipped in the bud from the early warning sign of this incident. Maybe the Police etc would just give him a telling off, but it might be a spark of realisation for him.

I would suspect running over an elderly lady is the spark of realisation he needed!

It depends on who would have to look after Mum if problems arise later on. I had to ask my parents to see the GP on several occasions when they wouldn't have bothered because it would have been me picking up the pieces if they'd left something to get worse.

She has reported it and a very sympathetic policeman that took the details says it is a very serious incident and she did the right thing. He is sending someone to interview her this afternoon and the matter is being looked into with the Garage too, he was appalled and thinks there is more to it than meets the eye (I presume he means drink or drugs).

If you've ever tried to get CCTV from a petrol station you'll know its hard to.
The point I was making is that there should be CCTV evidence there to corroborate the OP's story should they inform the police.

You may be right, but in this instance an elderly lady wasn't run over.

One wonders how he could make this assumption on so little information?

To be honest, when in a busy petrol station with people come out from all directions I'm not surprised people get hit.. although obviously extra care needs to be taken to take account of these risks.

I'm surprised the police would jump to a conclusion that it was drink/drugs based on the victims comments (well actually im surprised they would make it clear they thought this).

Your mum needs to be seen to be checked over, and in case there are costs further down the line which need to be met. I recall a cyclist falling off his bike into my mums garden - he smacked his head so an ambulance was called and off he went. Next day he called down to say thanks for helping him and how lucky he was to have cuts and bruises. Three weeks later his partner was passing on her way up to the hospital to visit him and his broken neck :O The point of this being that he had been walking about for three weeks with a broken neck and was completely unaware of it, it was only diagnosed because a nurse was sorting x-rays out with a student and they happened to select his to have a nosy at. . . .

Which needs to be obtained ASAP.
Most will keep for a max of 30 days. So will over record in a lot less.

If OP's mum ends up in hospital in a few days and its gone... What are the odds that the details provided are not real.

  • I have only read the first post as I can see this has turned into an argument.

Your mothers health is paramount and also the safety of others....

So here is my advise to the OP....

A situation such as this should always be reported....
First of all you should have taken your mother to an A&E department, told them of the situation and they could have gave your mother a complete examination and made a report of their findings.

On the way to A&E you could have phoned the Police, they would then make their own minds up as to weather they need to get involved.
I would expect them to ask you if there was any witnesses etc, and they would also visit the petrol station to view cctv etc.
Not to mention they would want to identify the driver and the vehicle he was driving. Who Knows he may be a banned driver or he may make a habbit of this sort of thing?

If she has not already done so? Please get your mum to seak medical advice asap.

Best of luck and stay safe.
