Maybe should have left well alone .
I know you didn't - I was referring to the people who do think like that, not you

It's a very rare thread on MSE that sticks rigidly to the point (or issue).

It's a very rare thread where people don't simply have to tell you how much its acceptable to spend on certain things.
**I give my kids £200 for Christmas** Ohh thats FAR too much! I give mine a box!
**I bought a handbag for £150** WHO spends that on a bag? They are a fiver in the market
**£150 a head birthday meal** etc etc
Nowhere on our profiles does it detail our incomes, outgoings, debts etc. Nowhere when you sign up to this site does it stipulate you have to be on the breadline to use it.
At some point people might just keep their noses out and accept that some people can afford to buy/do things others cant and what is an unacceptable amount for one person isn't for another.
OP, have a fabulous meal regardless.

It's his Bday, completely his decision who he wants to celebrate his special day with. He met this girl who is good fun and he fancies - good on him.
I take it that none of the partners are good friends with him? In which case why would they even want to come?
He has every right to spend night with who he chooses, and you have absolutely every right to decide that spending night with your partner is better prospect.
I don't think that you can compare your partner to this girl - feel put out that she can come and your OH can't.
To the issue of price - it's about what we all consider as our preference, isn't it... some people have no problem spending a lot on meal out as they see value in it, some see no problem spending lot on car while not much on anything else.. Some want expensive bags.
I know I don't enjoy meals out THAT MUCH to pay £150 a head for, but then I went to New York for my friend's bday because I saw value in that.. without my partner!!0 -

I do agree with you to an extent, being a lover of good handbags and quality jewellery, but you do have to ask yourself why some posters put the info out there if they don't want people to comment.
The price of the meal has NOTHING to do with the issue OP posted about, so why even state it? The problem with the new 'friend' being invited would be the same if it were a £15 per head meal. Unless OP feels paying £150 per head gives her more entitlement to a say in the guest list or etiquette changes with the price of the menu?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I would not have a problem with a single invite if the resturant could only cater for a limited number of gurest.
I do think not inviting partners is abit selfish but it is hes choise.0 -

Absolutely!
When you give information on a public forum you should expect to get all sorts of comments that may or may not be relevant to the issue.
Which is why I posted this:It's a very rare thread on MSE that sticks rigidly to the point (or issue).

I wouldn't go if I was you or your friend £150 for a meal?!?!? I'd want to take the table and chairs home with me for that price!

No problem unless he is a mutual friend (and thus ought to have invited OH as an equally well-known friend). Hubby's mates aren't my mates and vice versa. The cost doesn't change how I feel about that.0 -

Although, further to my last post, the cost is the main reason I'd decline!
