I will never become a good neighbour again following this!!

When I was a student (waaaaay back) I lived in a small block of flats with security entrance. The area was really quiet and the only people coming & going were the folks who lived there.
One friday afternoon I signed for a parcel for a girl who lived across from me ... there was only us two on that floor & we were top floor too.
I didn't get on with her too well, she always objected to me leaving my bicycle outside my front door, it "lowered the tone". It probably did too. But heck there was no-where else to leave it. And that combined with my music. So no, she wasn't my greatest fan. Doubt if any of the neighbours liked me either. Looking back me & my mates weren't exactly ideal neighbours. Getting up at 1pm every day, music on, the parteees ... ah those were the days.
I was going away for the weekend & thought well she'll be wanting her parcel as soon as she gets home from work ... so I left it outside her front door. She'd be home in an hour or so. Reckoned no-one would come in during that hour so it'd be safe enough. Better that than her waiting all weekend for it.
Comes back home the following Monday ... no sooner am I in then she appears at the door, screaming the place down, she wants her parcel !! She'd phoned the courier, they told her I'd signed for it, if I didn't give her the parcel she'd phone the Police ...
And I'm like "!!!!!!" I left it outside your door ... she calls me a liar, a pervert (seemingly the parcel contained underwear from a catalogue company) ... huge argument ... then the other neighbours appear and start backing her up !! So I end up slamming the door on the lot of them. An hour later the Police arrive ... say I'm being accused of theft and they come into my house to search for the parcel ... find nothing of course and I had to make a statement explaining what happened. By that point I was in a huge state myself, had to get the 'rental units over to calm me down.
She moves out a few weeks later ... after all she can't be doing with living near a pervert "who steals her knickers" ...
And we find out, a few months later, that during the hour gap between me leaving for my weekend away and her coming home from work that a repair guy had been in, noticed the parcel and left it with the dotty lady on the ground floor. She'd stuck it in a cupboard and forgotton about it.
All that bad feeling about one parcel. So yeah, you've guessed right. I no longer sign for anyone else's parcels. It's just not worth the hassle.0 -
I dont think youve got a chance of them offering compensation. They seem like they are just stalling till monday till the courier comes. When the courier comes tell them you left it in the garden you thought he,d took it already. And flog it.0

My old neighbours signed for my table, 4 chairs and welsh dresser once after the company messed up the delivery day. Took over their entire living room till I got home. I have also signed for someones poly tunnel kit (moster sized!) in the past.
However I have also recieved parcels that have been obviously opened and resealed and some that have gone astray from one set of neighbours. Thankfully they have now moved out! Everytime I ordered anything I had to say NOT to leave parcels with them but the delivery drivers still did.... Funny how the ones that didn't need to be signed for never made it to me.0 -

Hi Lee.
Firstly you shouldn't be claiming some kind of voucher by way of compensation!!
You should be charging them a storage fee!
You aught to contact them and say that you have taken legal advice on the subject and that if the item is still in your possession 24 hours from now, that you will be charging them £50 per day for storage.(in your front garden or wherever)
Tell them that if they don't want the item and don't want to pay a storage charge, that you will sell the item to cover your costs.
OR.
Since they have said that they will now take full responsibility for the item, even if left in your front garden, get them to fax to you a note stating as such and then sell the bl00dy thing for all of the trouble that you have been put to.
Think I favour the storage method, tho:)"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
