I use these, three winters and still going strong! I find them easier to take on and off as well.

Another vote for Yaktrax here- they are fabby brilliant and i have no problem whatsoever about walking in them on sheet ice or snow
If you are going to go for the cheaper ones, please at least make sure that you get ones that have a strap that goes across the top of your shoe as well, for extra securityI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. One of these in our road today - with no strap do they come off too easy0 -
If you get the ones with spikes, make sure you get some with a few more spikes (10 on each foot I think?). I think the cheapo pound shop ones only have a few spikes so are less effective.0

I used these today on the snow that had been compacted and frozen over:

I put them on my wellies closer to the middle of my foot than the picture shows which is just on the ball of the foot.
They work! What else can I say? They were very cheap and they work fine. I can't see them working on tiny thin patches of black ice or anything like that but this very slippy, thick snow/ice stuff? They work wonders!
They also work very well in all kinds of snowy conditions. Just don't wear them in lino :PHi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. I eventaully found a pair of shoes the 99p shop spikes will actually pull over. Yippee, they work, and I made it to tube station this morning w/o breaking my neck. Mission accomplished.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've tried both winter tracks and yak tracks and find yak tracks the best as stronger.
Just watch the sizes as I asked the guy in Millets for a ladies size 8 and he sold me medium - way too big - he'd read the American sizes on the box, I'm a size 8 and only needed a small.
With my new pair I put them on my walking boots over night so they were more stretched and easier to get on/off.
My side road is a sheet of ice at the moment - the pavements and side roads are and these grips worked fine today.
I wear them on areas of gritted pavements and manage to walk carefully across the station in them but remove them as I get to work or into a shop.Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.
