There seem to be good reductions on a few of these type of contraptions on Amazon. If you look underneath in recommended offers there are others to choose from cheap. List here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/AA-Snow-and-Ice-Grips/dp/B0046RDLQI/ref=pd_sim_auto_1

The reviews are ok but then on another listing it has nearly 5 stars on all reviews.

I think that those would simply slip off the front of the boot (especially the one shown), and could be more perilous than not having them.

There are some that cover the whole sole of the shoe that would seem to be better to me.

I would advise anyone to get some after my husband fell and broke his hip on the ice, he wears the ones that cover the whole sole of the shoe.

There maybe some better ice grip deals on Ebay where postage is included.

  • those don't look either very effective or safe, TBH! You are better off spending a bit more and getting something that you know will work and will stay on. You can't beat Yaktrax grippers IMO, and there are often offers on at Amazon and other places to get good prices on them.

I was looking at the snow grips last year and wondered exactly how do you wear them ? What i mean is, if i was to have them on walking to the shops, would you leave them on or slip them off while 'inside' and put them on again as you left for home.

I have yaktrax and I take them off while indoors. They are very easy to slip on and off. You could leave them on but im sure they would scrap floor and possibly ruin the grips? My ones are metal spirals like springs that cross over and the grip is unbelievable. They are worth every penny imo.

When I use to work outside for a living we use to get ones that fit the whole shoe and had metal chain underneath and rubber straps that went around the whole shoe. They did the job perfectly

Worth getting some if you walk a lot, councils might be cutting back on doing pavements low priority compared with roads
