Icy & snow weather traction for footwear

I swear by Yak Tracks they have made such a difference to me as I was so scared of walking on snow and ice before I got them. One icy week I spent £40 on taxis to get to work and thought how stupid that was and googled for ice grips - tried some cheaper ones but they were no good but the Yak Tracks are amazing.
I got mine from QVC then from High Street outdoor type shops.
My current ones are now giving up as some of the metal coils are splitting but these are 2 years old but I've got a spare pair in stock.Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

I bought some cheapo ones from Amazon last year. These:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/WinterWise%C2%AE-10-STUD-Traction-Universal-Crampons/dp/B0061MZZOM/ref=pd_sim_sg_3
and dug them out the other day to use them for the first time and they are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I marched over sheet ice on the school run while everyone else was slipping and sliding. I got an XL (uk 9-11) and they fit my shoes (UK 6) and my hubbies (UK 10). They are very stretchy. But I just didn't think they would work as well as they do - just amazing. However, you have to take them off indoors and they are hard to walk on normal non-icy pavements if there are just patches of ice.
EDIT - they also fit over my UGGs, as well as my normal boots.
I can't imagine more expensive ones would be any better than these as they are amazing - although maybe the metal spikes would wear down more quickly? But at this price you could just buy another pair. Although - maybe someone with yaktrax can confirm - can you leave them on indoors while e.g. walking around shops ?0 -
I just bought a pair of boots with grips built in to the bottom you just turn them around when its icy - First time out this morning and I was well impressed even managed to hold everyone else up without slipping0

No, you have to take them off - they are too slippy to wear inside.0 -
I have the 'wintertrax' ones from QVC - they are the spiral ones and are very effective, but please do take them off when not on snow or ice. I nearly went flat on my back on the tiled floor in Morrisons & at a main railway station - really dangerous!______________________________________0

Also have them in home bargains for 99p, it says they are all one size to fit.Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!0

So if I walk down the high street to the local shops, everytime I enter a shop, I have to take them off and put them back on? Are they easy to take off and put on?? Would I not be Ok if I just nipped into the shop which means walking on hard floor for about 3/4 metres? I can understand taking them off when in supermarket but in small corner shop??0
