Using the Financial Ombudsman

  • Reading the posts above it seems that most are using the FOS service - but don't forget the Court Service Money Claim online. I've just used that to successfully get back charges from the nationwide - seems its quicker than the FOS route as, once you've logged your claim they only have 28 days to respond.

They waited for 25 days then coughed up the whole lot without any more fuss. The letter they sent did contain a veiled threat to close the account should it go overdrawn again but a it was a complete victory in little over a month from start to finish.

I would disagree that most are using the FOS. I think it's probably just because this is the FOS thread

I'm using the FO as I can't use Money claim being in Scotland and the small claims limit being lower here.
It hasn't taken long to get a reasonable offer but actually getting the money may be longer than court (?) not sure.
But they have been very helpful and problem free so far.

Received a letter from the ombudsman this morning.

Nationwide still believe there charges are fair, but they are willing to offer me a full refund of all charges claimed (amount includes interest) without admitting any liability

Well done! :T I wonder if i'll get an offer letter OOOhh pls God pls!!
    Anyway, congrats to you!!

Received a letter from Ombudsman on Saturday offering 2026.50 from Lloyds TSB, this was 17 days after receiving letter stating they had 6 weeks to make an offer.
We are very happy and just hope they send the cheque out as quickly.:T:j

I've now realised that small claims court in scotland is only for amounts of up to £750, my claim with Halifax is £2330, so does this mean that i can't file it with the court and will have to go to financial ombisman?? xx

You don't have to but I honestly think it would be your best (and cheapest!) option.
I had the same problem as you with Lloyds and the FO came through for me so it does work out!

what a great site! reclaiming charges via Financial Ombudsman Service, received standard letter from Halifax (charges justified,t & c's etc). FOS wrote to me a week ago stating that they would ask the bank to settle my claim. Is it now too late to ask for the interest, or am I just greedy? ha ha any advice most welcome. also, what success has anyone had using FOS? thanks x

    Hiya
I used the FO and got a letter from them yesterday with an offer from Nwide that was £5000 short of what has been charged to me???

I have not read this anywhere on people using the FO, usually they offer full refund....so, I am including all spreadsheets, rejecting the offer and asking the FO to start formal proceedings.......

Hoping that NW will avoid formal proceedings at all costs and offer me full refund.

Anyone had this happen to them?

    Thanks Andy
