    Well DeeDee
I've been waiting nearly 3 wks and not heard a thing yet, still under "investigation" so you just have to wait. I wanted mine sorted by now cos of going on holiday (nowt expensive, camping, but would have been nice, instead of scrimping)
They are being inundated with enquiries so it will take them longer.

    Hi everyone... a question!!
I am claiming back £1600 from Lloyds for my girlfriends parents. Its been going on for months and months (at least 4 I think).
I wrote a couple of letters and final demands to Lloyds and after they failed to respond to both letters I contacted the FO.
2 days after sending the claim to the FO Lloyds have sent a letter saying they are paying £750 straight into their account as final settlement.
We dont want this as final settlement and the FO have already contacted about thier account!
What should I do now... Do I tell Lloyds thank you but no... or say we will only accept as partial payment... If we accept as partial payment will that ruin our chances of getting a better pay out??
I could do with advice on how to proceed please peeps!
    Ta in advance!

After getting no joy from the Clydesdale I contacted the FOS. I have used them in the past with great succsess. Anyway the bank ignored my repeated requests for my statements on old A/C and did not cash my £10 cheque. I phoned the FOS and they stated they would write to the Clydesdale on my behalf requesting my bank charges refunded blah blah. The FOS stated I must wait 8 weeks from the date Clydesdale recieve this letter. Well 3 weeks after the FOS sent this to them they sent a standard we are investigating and are allowed 8 weeks, we will contact you before then. Wed 11th is the 8 week deadline and so far no reply. Do I ring the FOS after the post has been on Wed if they have stilll not replied?? I am still waiting for my statements also so do not know how much my claim is? In reality from speaking to the FOS untill Wednesday will be 11 weeks but I realized that the FOS send letters out in baches. So the Clydesdale were prompt in their initial response but typical of them they are now being awkward. Any ideas? Many thanks.

  • Hi all.
I have followed Martin's steps to reclaiming bank charges from Nationwide. My claim is for £579 including interest. This was in February. They said no so I took it to the Financial Ombudsman. I have received a letter from them saying that Nationwide will pay £449 which includes £60 pending charges. I have looked at my statement and it says that I'm overdrawn by £30.22 (unpaid dd charge + interest) not £60.
Should I take the money and run or write back to the FOS and say I want the full amount? I assume that if I say yes to the £449 I will only actually get £389 as Nationwide will take off the £60 "pending charges."
Also if I hang out for the full amount how long can I calculate the interest up until as the total was £579 including interest back in February!

    for reclaiming Bank Charges?

Doing a quick search, it looks like Barclays is one of the more difficult banks to reclaim charges from... is that fair? Or are they all as bad as each other?

I contacted the Financial Ombudsman and requested they send a letter to Barclays on my behalf, which they did - waiting for a response from Barclays! I just gave them the account numbers and they did the rest - if I don't get a satisfactory response from Barclays, then I complete a form and return to the FO and they will then get involved.

I pressume other people must have used the FO in the same way...?

  • Hi

Can anyone tell me whether or not it is worth filing a complaint with the FO first before court action - I heard this also costs the banks £400 a time which is a pleasing thought.

I have already sent my letter threatening court action to Abbey and they have so far fobbed me off but was worried going down the court route first as I am posted overseas in germany and it will cost us money if we have to travel back from germany for a 5 minute hearing for example?

Has there been many success stories on people getting settlement figures going down the FO route, haven't seen many posts in the forum on this subject?

    Many thanks
