Techspec - Think I'm having the same worries and concerns as you!! I'm going thru the FOS with my £10k claim, had letter on 20/06 saying being passed over to investigation, phoned today, but still nothing. Just getting a bit downhearted thinking I'm gonna be the only one that they will say no to!
Hope it goes well for you! - and everyone too! The more we get off the banks the better!!

  • How many times can I complain about my bank charges?

I got back a big chunk of my charges, but because the bank didn't cancel my direct debits I had another lot of charges. I complained to the ombudsman about them and they say because they refunded me the other charges, they won't with this. I want to make another complaint about the decision because in the letter they state that mostly everything with the bank is automated, so I refuse to believe it costs them £20-30 to send an automated letter. Anyway, can I complain about their decision not to refund my charges? Also, how much does it cost the bank for me to complain to the ombudsman?

I'm not sure who said what from your post, are you saying the FO have agreed with the bank that you can't make another claim?

A complaint about the bank to the FO is not chargeable until such times as the FO receives a completed and signed complaint form with the information they need to be able to start work on the case. This has always been the case with the FO and any registered financial business and has recently increased to £400 from £350. The charge only becomes payable by the bank when the case has reached a conclusion and is signed off.

    Hi

I am going to use the FO to pursue my charges from barclays I originally spoke to them on the phone and they started a reference number and sent a letter saying they would look into it. Since then I have sent a letter detailing the charges does anyone know if I can take the 8 weeks from the date I spoke to them on the phone or does it have to be from the letter I sent in.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi traceppp,
I too am at the same stage. I received a letter on 20/6 saying it was being passed over to investigation dept. Phoned yesterday and was advised it was still at same stage. Like you, I am beginning to think I will get bu**er all. Over the past 5 years I have had a few charges refunded, ( I have allowed for these in my claim ) and I just hope this doesn't go against me, although it shouldn't really, as the argument is based on the ridiculous amount they charge.

    Hi sassypurple,
Not quite sure if you mean 8 weeks for the bank or the FOS.
I phoned the FOS on the same day that I wrote to the bank requesting a refund and they gave me a reference no. However I had to give the bank 8 weeks from that day to respond and then the FOS took over. Hope this helps,

    Hi Drac,

I done everything right with Abbey (template letters etc) but because it was a closed account and we had moved address 5 years ago, they struggled to deal with our complaint. As soon as we recieved statements, we complained to the FOS thinking it would take 6-9 months max, we were told unofficially it could take upto 6 weeks for a reply of Abbey, the whole process did not take that long, hang on in there and let the FOS do the work, no more letters or phone calls that you have to pay for. (6 weeks max)

    Great Luck!!

  • Hi, i'm hoping someone will know the answer to my question :) I know its 8 weeks beofre the FO take on your complaint. Is the 8 weeks from the date you sent the SAR or from the date of the first letter ?

6/8 weeks since you have been dealing with the bank so I assume its from when you sent your first letter asking for your charges back and not from when you sent your SAR. Phone them up and they will help further.
