I was a bit worried by some of the negative comments re the FOS but thought I'd give them a try after the usual "charges are not unlawfull" etc. from the Abbey so I sent of a complaints form about 8 weelks ago with copies of correspondence.
Good news yesterday - a letter from the FOS stating that Abbey still don't agree but will pay 6 years charges (£3,586.50) as "an alternative to a formal investigation".
So I would encourage folk to consider using the FOS. I'm now awaiting the outcome of my complaint re Capitol One credit card charges. I'll keep you posted!0 -
I also went down the road with the f o and it had a good result for me got it all sorted out with 6 wks just got the letter on saturday past saying the charges are fair but will refund me all the money.
It also costs the banks £400 in fees for every complaint someone puts in regarding bank charges0 -
I have recently been trying to claim back, bank charges amounting to £351.29 inc interest & card charges amounting to £1496.58 inc interest. I have had offers of half without interest for each, which I have already contacted the Halifax to say that I am not happy with their offer and they have again passed it on again to the customer relations department. Unfortunatley I cannot find the first letters that I received from the bank giving the old "we have done nothing wrong" letters, would these be needed if I used the FOS route?
Can someone help??

A formal investigation by the FO is something a bank will do almost anything to avoid. The FO's investigators are all highly qualified financial experts and know exactly where the bodies are likely to have been buried and which closets are likely to have the skeletons in them! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
some threads say that the refund will be without interest if you go through the FOS route but yet some people have received interest back... confused???
I've got 3 organisations that I need to start court proceedings but can only afford to do one - I'm skint this month... they are all around the £300 mark but that's still £90 mycol fees. But, I do get paid again in 3 weeks so might just wait. (I'm on a very low wage and live in London so it doesn't last long!!!)Light bulb moment April 07: [strike]£3,655 [/strike] Oct 07: [strike]£2,220[/strike] now 0 - 3 years of Uni debt to be added at a later datenow at Uni as a Mature student -update: now has a First Class BA!0 -
i've just filed my complaint with financial ombudsman today and posted complaint form for £1445 with lloydstsb. i'm wondering roughly how long it will take to get dealt with? i've filed n1 with the court for £528 with Abbey as i felt that would stand a better chance of getting settled without them defending. I know lloydstsb are a different kettle of fish so that's why i've gone down the ombudsman route. At least if i don't get no joy with them i can go to court. What i'm wondering is there anybody who's been down the same path so i know roughly what time scale there is. Any help and information would be much appreciated.0

It took around 5 wks to get my case resolved through the financial ombudsman0 -
Just to let you know that my sister called the Ombudsman 10 days ago to start a complaint re bank charges against the Nationwide Building Society - at no cost to her - and yesterday she received a letter from the Nationwide offering her more than £4000 of charges back without her having to do anything - brilliant0

Thats good to hear, but the FSO are currently taking 2-3 months according to this site, so was it co-incidence, Maybe they were planning to respond anyway?
I hope it was down to the FOS, as Lloyds TSB won't respond to my SAR, so the only route i can now take, is the FOS, and i was worried they were too slow.0
