January 2013 Grocery Challenge

I'm going to start this challenge because I have done an inventory of my food stocks and found many things past their best before date. I want to end 2013 having used up my stocks instead of buying things I already have or don't really need.
Please put me down for £100 a month. I spent £169 a month including toiletries and household goods in 2012

Well a few cheeky spends to report.
We had a day visiting family yesterday and by the time we drove home couldn't be bothered to cook so £5 spent in the chippy. We have agreed to try no more takeaways for January though so that should help!
Also to add £1.28 on milk, 70p on a croissant and £1.50 on chicken slices (why OH has to buy Bernard Matthews I don't know!)
He just comes home with things like this all the time, it's very frustrating! Anyway will update my sig in a min. Haven't added dog food yet as OH still hasn't given me the receipt and he bought some rawhide bones as well, even though we have loooads from Xmas!
Anyway rant over!!Kitchen Debt - 2820/260Save £12k in 2013 #060: 1293.24/3000MFW: 88760.00/85000.00 (4.24% paid)0 -

Can I join this challenge too? My monthly budget will be £400, I think that will be managable. We will all be eating low carb so I will be buying lots of meat this month but to balance that out there will be no desserts or sugary snacks.0

hello again...i saw an interesting piece on sky news yesterday about the price of potatoes going up..a chip shop owner was saying last week he paid £11 for a sack of spuds...didnt say how many the reporter said the harvest was not very good so quality is down and prices up
might be worth peepes thinking about other carbs like cous cous/rice dont know how prices compare but it sounds as if i might not be going to the chippy much next year

Good afternoon everyone, my challenge starts tomorrow and i`m sure i`ll go over my budget:mad:. Stocks are low (for us)at the moment, but i`m determined to have a go:D.
Any ideas as to how to keep 2 kids from constantly going through my cupboards. They both eat adult size portions and seems half an hour later, they`re hungry again:eek:. If anybody has the secret formula, please let me know your secret.;)Grocery Challenge 2013: July week 1 £90/£87.41

Happy New Year everyone
Been to Sainsbobs today and spent £20 ish also did a tesco order for the heavy stuff - tins etc but will record that on Weds when it gets here. Not doing too bad budget wise but realised we planned on takeaway for tonight and still don't know what DH wants, hoping it's not too pricey!
Found a great website with recipes for healthier snacks and meals for babies and toddlers, want to start making my own and hoping it will work out cheaper in the long run! Quite excited to try some new ideas for my DSTomorrow we are having mushroom burgers made with mushroom, ricotta and pearl barley for lunch - should be interesting!
Will be using more beans and pulses in 2013 and am going to buy dried, hoping it's cheaper that wayStay at home Mum to DS Oct 2011 and DD Dec 2013

This is potentially going to be true for lots of UK grown veg. OH works in agricultural research and basically because this year has been ridiculously wet the farmers have been unable to drill/harvest etc when needed, therefore smaller harvests and increased prices. I would imagine rice / cous cous etc won't be affected in the same way as it isn't harvested here (I think???)
I have heard lots of rants from OH as some of his trials have been ruined due to the rainfall, one of his trials got completely flooded out losing his company some ridiculous amount of money (40k ish I believe!)
Edit: I don't even know what cous cous is / how it is made.....I just know I like itKitchen Debt - 2820/260Save £12k in 2013 #060: 1293.24/3000MFW: 88760.00/85000.00 (4.24% paid)0 -
