Seasons Greetings and almost, a Happy New Year to all!

Like a bad penny, i just keep turning up ;)

I aim to start the year participating in the grocery challenge, and hopefully continue with it throughout 2013. DS moved back home about a month ago, he is a teen and is always hungry so our budget will increase for grocery purchases. I still haven't quite decided whether to go for an annual grocery budget or a monthly one.

I am going to start, i think, by budgeting £50 per week, and hence the annual figure being £2,600 for three adult appetities and a large pooch. I would rather start at a lower end of a budget (that is still quite reasonable) and increase if and when it is necessary.

I think that budgetting annually would fit in better with my ways of shopping, ie stocking up on lots of an item when it is at a very good price, bulk buying certain foodstuffs etc.

Will update signature shortly.

Ahh, dumbass ipad is screwing with my post, i was only trying to make my annual budget clear so i could be added to the challenge for 2013!

• Hi, I'm new to this, but I feel like I need to take control of our grocery shopping. There is myself and my husband and our 4 kids, 2 boxer dogs and 2 cats. I would like to set a budget of £600, which will include all food, cleaning supplies and toiletries (if that's ok?).
It may seem a lot but if I can stick to that in January that will be a vast improvement, then hopefully can reduce that through the year.
Just wanted to say thanks for the thread also.

• This sounds crazy, but I'm going to try and spend £0, yes zero pounds on food in January. How?, well there's only me to feed and my freezer is full with meats from Christmas, stews & soups and frozen veg. Milk and fruit will be "bought" with Nectar points. I've already "spent" £2.50's worth on milk and carrots yesterday. I signed up for adpoints and Nectar canvass so will earn points, and hopefully gain enough to see me through. I've some single cream to use, so will make Gratin Dauphinoise tomorrow for evening meal and the double cream will be made into a fruit fool with broken meringue...like an Eton Mess.

what a good idea i have some Nectar points so i will do that when i next need some milk etc. wont be able to buy all what i need as i dont have a lot but will ekk out the budget. so far we have spent £36 on milk bread and veg fo the week. a bit more than i anticipated but hopefully some of it will go into next weeks meals as well.

going to make homemade soup today with older veg some of which will go in freezer for later in week.
You can if you think you can .

Firstly, a big thanks to Rosieben for all your hard work indexing all those helpful recipes - you did a great job!.As does everyone else who runs the thread btw!

Have had a think about my budget and decided to go for £1440 for the year and change to an annual budget which equates to £120 per month. Its the first time I've gone to an annual buget so wish me luch to come in on budget. I'll total up my spends so far from 21 Dec when my year started, don't think its been too much so far and also add up my receipts for Dec which I'm sure came in under budget.
2013 GC Annual Budget - £1440
