Chicken gone in the freezer and a whoopsied apple pie for tea. This isnt coming off my jan budget as I had about 10.50 in change left over from Dec budget. Come on just to check that I can freeze liver once cooked as on pack it says previously frozen do not refreeze but can I freeze once cooked please? Otherwise we will be living on liver ans onions for the next two days!!

Feeling quite please with myself right now - in true spirit of trying to not go to the shops, we turned left over french stick from 2 days ago into french bread pizzas, and split 2 eclairs between 4 of us and had a mince pie each.

The children have gone to my parent's for the night so Mr Shortie and I will be using up any perishable bits for 'dinner' - well... I say dinner - I mean one serious grazing marathon :rotfl:) Think goats cheese and crackers, the last 2 mince pies... and I pulled out a pack of oh-so-expensive Mr T Value pitta breads from the freezer to grill later and much as is, dipped in butter or filled with the little bit of left over curried meat

Tomorrow we are at a friends for NY and we're taking dessert, so....... I'll pull some frozen hm uncooked shortbread cookies out of the freezer, cook them and dredge in sugar, and having only 1 pack of cooking butter at the mo I'll make a lemon curd (hm curd) pie (uses 125g butter) and undecided at the mo on the other half of the pack...!

OOoohhh hang on.. if I take the lemon curd I'll need to take cream really and that will mean buying some. Dang! Maybe I'll rethink that back into fairy cakes...?

    Hmmmm

Well I'm doing this for the first time, I'm seeing how little I can spend by using all the random things already in the house... I'm starting on New Year's Day, - I've planned the first weeks meals and I'm spending a put a fiver which seems crazy. There is only me and my 10 year old so I'm wondering if £200 is a sensible budget.
Looking forward to trying this out with you all!
  • VickyV, your lovely-sounding Chicken Fricasee is now in the recipe index - sorry about the delay, I've been super busy meeting friends etc over the last couple of days! :o

  • We get paid every Friday hence when my weekly budget starts - and so far we are doing well having spent nothing! I've been making meals with leftovers and know that I've still got a few more days before I have to do some serious food shopping. Not sure what we will be doing over the next few days but hope to go out walking - and thought we could take a picnic. I'm hoping that we will just be able to get bread and milk before next Friday.

Hiya, if you go to 'User CP' on the green menu bar, then on the left hand side click 'Edit Signature' under settings & Options, and type away :D
